Yesterday evening we husked & cut 15+ dozen off the cob for this winter. Kind of a family tradition for us. Been enjoying sweet corn year round since I can remember. We'll do another 15 dozen in the next few days. That should set up us & my folks till it's ready again next year.

Shown in the pic is Amy's Gold from a local farm called Wenninghoff's, it's prime right now. Took the wife & I 3hrs to prep this batch for mom to roast & bag. You'd think I'd been tired of it after that, but I still grilled some with our steaks last night.

Anyone like sweet corn?

Yes! A while back, we lived in the Chicago area for three and a half winters. On a trip home (way south), we stopped at a farm house surrounded by corn fields. We bought a big paper grocery sack full of sweet corn. We loved it!

Isn't anything in any grocery store that can compare with fresh just picked. Same with most produce, got a farm near you where ya can buy eggs? Huge difference in laid this morning and laid last week sometime.

Believe it or not my mechanic has chickens and sells fresh eggs. Good mechanic too.

I live in SW Ohio and we grow the best sweet corn in the Western World! I love it boiled, grilled (my favorite) and fried. My wife also uses whole kernels cut from the cob in our corn bread. Really takes corn bread to the next level. I am of Appalachian stock and we LOVE our corn bread, too!

We also love corn chowder made with corn grilled on the cob, then sliced off for the soup.

We are surrounded by farmer's markets and the sweet corn fresh picked of the day is hard to beat!

I love sweet corn, it's the only kind I will eat [even my popcorn has to be kettle corn]
that corn looks outstanding.
we can't really grow corn here so I gotta get it imported.
luckily I happen to know both the produce and meat managers at the local store, and when they do the ordering and when the freight comes in.

We just finished off last year's 3 boxes 100 or so ears .
It looks like we will have lots of white corn this year .

It should be coming off any day now .

I am such an old school Yankee farm boy...! I tolerate sweet corn. But give me some good ol' dented Field Corn and I am blissful! Nobody but me will eat it, but I love it!

Field corn is great but there's a catch, very young and still white, not long after the kernels have formed, are small and well before they turn yellow and hard as a rock. It's sweet and really good eatin. Think of it as early summer corn.

Yep on corn, and Rick is dead right on field corn, too. Catch it early enough and eat the whole
cob, immature, like 3 inches long, crunchy sweet. Later it is more like normal sweet corn, eat
it off the cob, later.....good for hog and cattle feed. We were cutting it for silage later.

Corn is good stuff a whole lot of ways. I have to agree with Paul.

Folks used to grow IlliniChief and Silver Queen....OH my. We had the water boiling before
we'd cut it, run it to the water, shuck and drop. About 40 seconds to the hot water from
growing. FRESH corn.

Well, we did another 15+ dozen. Husked & cut off the cob in 2hrs. That's at least 360 ears processed in total. Makes about 120 2cup bags. Each 15dozen batch fills two of the tubs shown in pic.

Thank the Lord for dogs or cleaning up the floor in the shop would take longer.

It's grown locally (~5 miles from my house) and is in plentiful supply now. It has also been very good to excellent!

P.S. Corn & apples are big crops in my county.

That is one of the few reasons that I miss Michigan.

Used to get it from the farmer, "farmers dozen", for a dollar.

There is a little farming town not far from here, that is big on their corn, festival and all.

Hit or miss on whether it is worth eating.

But, the wife has a doe tag for up there, and between the corn fields and the hay fields, the does are fat and tasty!
