Got my new Savage 340 30/30

Now I would much rather have a 788 in 30/30 but until then I will work with the 340. After Jim's recent thread on the 340 I am feeling a lot better about the Savage.

This one has pretty nice piece of wood. It is a first model 340 with NSN. If I mount a scope it will have to be D/T. Notice the wrist of the stock, the former owner slimmed it down a good bit.

They are shooters! I love mine. I have not got the groups Jim has but still respectable.

if you are going to D&T anyway, check out LeeRoy's Ramblings on a top base vs side base. One of the guys (here or other forum) just posted some updated info on the top mount base setup for the 340. My 222 Rem was factory D&T'd side mount or I would have done the top mnt setup.

You guys got the proper Receiver sights on your! I put a Williams 340 on mine when I got it….Worked great however I lost about 3" sight radius because it mounts forward the Bolt!

I was gonna comment on the sights also.

I'm using the open sights that come on the rifle, it takes some serious focus on that brass bead to get it shoot well.

They just scream for a Lyman 17a front sight with a small aperture along with the receiver sight

Looks like a very fun gun...I especially like the vibration dampener installed on the barrel.... that should enhance accuracy.....
