Yes.... Winter returns to Nebraska. Serious winter, not what we had been experiencing for many years.

We will be getting around -4 here in KC area tonight.

That is a real, honest-to-frozen-butt winter.

Topped off my propane tank today. That was reassuring.

There you go, good news, if you look hard enough. :)

Man, these new "smileys" suck. Any way to get the old ones back?

Not quite 2 degrees here.............I have 5 degrees and Rick's reporting 4, at his place. Wind Chill Advisory in place. Light snow (2-3") on ground from the last two days. At least it's suppose to be sunny today, with temps moderating, into the 40's and 50's for the next two weeks.

I can see no reason whatever why it's not June, even May would be acceptable. And the temp just dropped again, now 3 degrees. Damn, if we lose those 3 we won't have any degrees at all.

We are two short right now, with the wind chill we are 25 short.
Hey Ian, can you send us a few degrees? We would love to break even.

You aren't even close to cold!
Side note .I figured with all of our cold weather the ice would be to a depth of being very safe. How wrong I was. I didn't put my vehicle and house through the ice. But the combined weight makes the ice sink so that about an inch of water comes above ice level. When I park close to my fishouse. And with the amount of snow on the ice now. The ice will be insulated enough that it will not get much deeper this winter.

Just got up, getting ready for work.

38 here now, headed for 56 today.

With a slight breeze, will feel great with short sleeves!

The snow load weight sinks the ice and water seeps through new cracks. Makes the snow and water turn into smooth ice on top. Should be good running for the snomo, if I ever catch up on snare orders. The coyote snareman are out in full force, despite the current market.

All that means Rick is that in a few years it will be in the 70s to make up for it.

We usually get a few days like this but not usually this any. We had about 2 weeks never above freezing, that is really unusual for Omaha.

The bright side is it's a nice sunny day and the temp at 10:30 AM is already up to 7. :(

Was -4 this AM, roared up to 5 now. Should be touching 50 according to the weather
guessers by Sat. I still need to take the belly mower off of the tractor, put on the wheel wts,
chains and the blade! Headed off to Fla for Christmas without getting really set for winter.

I was finishing up this present for grandnephew and nieces. About 18" wide, some of the work
is kinda fussy, so didn't get done as quickly as I had planned.

Our big snowfalls come in Feb and March, so still OK, but can't miss this warm spell to get the
tractor ready for real snow. If we get 8" or a foot, I will need the blade to clear off the pad and
driveway.

is that a puzzle Bill?
that is a heck of a lot of fine detail work.

we must have a storm coming, the wind started blowing last night and it has been blowing steadily at 10-15 mph and gusting to about 20 all morning.

Yeah. 5mm plywood, cut out the outline of the country as one cut, no in-cuts. THAT was a real
PITA. Took about 4 hours. had a tiny blade for jigsaw, .012 thick, .037 wide, had to drill a .040
hole and restart about 20-25 times due to 10.5" reach of the saw. once that was done, it was
easy to slice up the states. Had to figure out how to keep parts of Louisiana delta, Cape Cod,
the MD panhandle and NJ, Del and RI and Conn from breaking off, or getting lost or swallowed
by little kids. Had to join Upper Penninsula and Michigan with Lake Michigan, various tricks to make
it workable as a puzzle. Then the background (Canada, Mexico and oceans) is glued onto a 1/2 plywood
backer, varnished.
A lot of fussy hand painting for the small details and lakes, Chesapeake Bay, etc. Drying time for layers
of paint was a killer, added days.

Lots of fun, the kids love it, but my tractor didn't get ready for winter snow before we had to leave.
It was worth it. I love making toys that will last and teach them something. The name is on the
back of each state. Right now it is just a puzzle, but it will become a learning tool.

Now I wish I had used a straight mercator projection, but this is a conical projection. The diff is
that E-W lines are curves in a conical, which is slightly weird when putting it together. I want
to put the southern border of VA in level, but it isn't, kinda screwed me up the first time I put
it together myself. Oh, well, still nice toy.

Yes, Brad. I loved my work, really was a neat challenge every day. But I also love
working with my hands, making things that I want, and especially for gifts for
others.

I whipped up an extra Wonder Horse for my friend's children after they came over
to test the spring stiffness on the first one. The little boy who got it (will share it
with 5 siblings) was so thrilled, it made it really worthwhile.

Not sure if I told this one, but it was absolutely amazing. You wouldn't have believed
it if it was written into a movie, "too fake" but it really happened.

Took the Wonder Horse over a couple days before last Christmas, gave it to the kids and the
one boy was just riding the heck out of it while the parents and my wife and I were catching
up, Christmas tree right next to it. My wife asked, "What will you call your horse?" He instantly
stopped, got off, walked to the front of the horse, looking at it from several different angles for
about 10-15 seconds, intense concentration on his face - as if it was a really critical priority.
Then he broke into a grin, looked up at us and loudly and proudly proclaimed, "I will call him
Stormy!"

I nearly fell out of the chair. He hopped back on Stormy and proceeded to ride the heck out if
him. We asked the parents if there was a book with a horse named Stormy or some real horse
that he knew, or had seen on TV. They couldn't think of anything that would have given him the
idea.

THAT was priceless. I can't think of anything more fun than making kids happy.

What's with all the different colors? Don't you know there's only red states and blue states?

Hey Ian, can you send us a few degrees? We would love to break even.

We're peaked out at 25 here, got 1/4" of sheet ice/sleet on everything above the ground and patchy black ice on the county road, so I'm enjoying a "snow day" at home with my family.
