Man, I love the 30/30! I never get bored with it.

Nice documentation/presentation of one of the reasons it's such a darling of a cartridge.

The .30-30 is probaly the second best cast bullet rifle cartridge ever ang where gallery loads are concerned, it is probably #1.

Loads like that are good small game loads as well.

you ought to try the 30-40 Krag:D!!! its No 1 for cast boolits in my book. No 2 is the 35/30-30.

my plinkin rifle is a '91 Argentine Mauser in 7.65x53 with a LEE 312-185-R GC RN and Unique.

The Krag would be #1. So far for me, it works well with gallery loads too, but I haven't dropped it down this low yet.

A favorite in 7.65x53 was 311299. Also worked well in 303 British.

Tell us about the 35/30 please.

it is one of the first wildcat cartridges. all you do is neck up a 30-30 case to .358". i went with CH-4D dies, but they tell me i can use 35 Rem dies. after a phone call, i sent my rifle to JES Reboring and three weeks later (1 week to mail it, 1 week to do it and 1 week to mail it back/ PA to OR and back) Jesse did a wonderful job on the 35/30. i believe it was around 3 - 5 handloads he gdid try and he also did mail the loads that were used. oh, i asked him do i use 3 or 5 grooves on cast boolits, he says 3 grooves.

sighting 35/30-30 with a Willian FP sight in with 200gr RCBS FN GC and 2400/tuft of dacron going 1726fps.

i was going try a 270 or 280gr WFN GC custom mould, but i tried 200gr RCBS and instantly fell in love. last year, i might as well say, i didn't go hunting, but for last three years, i killed 3 deer. two does that were 20-30 yards away and they jogged another 20ish yards till they fell over and one buck (very fat 4pt) that was 53 yards and he jogged about 20ish yards and fell over.

the 35/30 is powerwise, about 50 - 100fps slower than the 35 Rem and thats good enuff for me. i could load up Reloder 7 or H4198 to max loads (2000-2200fps) but why?

May I ask why you sized them to .308? It'sclearly working, but it's beenmy experince that .310 or .311 works best.
I sized to 308 because the velocity is very low...for me not necessary sized 309 or 310 ...my marlin is very old and the groove of the barrell very high

do you get any leading?

also, IF you can shoot fatter bullets, wouldn't it be easier to find one that has an "as cast" size of what just fits?
