be glad it didn't blow down from here.
it's around 0 right now.

So you're saying Idaho doesn't even have a temperature currently. I'm guessing those vacant houses across the street haven't had any lookers this week.

no lookers this week for sure, have only had one since the last occupants moved.
I don't think they even went inside.

Pete is probably still wearing a flannel shirt, I finally put a coat on Monday.

Ian should look at the place. He could learn to snowshoe and ice fish.

I know how to do both of those things.[I can ride a dog sled too]
I'm severely out of practice on doing those things and plan to stay that way, except for the ice fishing I might have to re-visit watching others do that.

My brother enjoys ice fishing. He never was quite right in the head.

I prefer a lack of ice and snow. I need to find a home in a place where the temps stays between 50 and 70 all year long.

You guys crack me up, I love fishing & boats, but no ice fishing for me...

I wonder what your hitek might do for those.

We had a couple inches of snow Thursday. It didn't get cold enough to stick until near the end, about 8 pm, but the trees and grass were still covered Friday morning. Considering it was mid-70s on Monday (normal) it's a little weird. My lifetime total of snow-shoveling in Texas is still zero minutes, and I'm 100% ok with that. I'm also ok pushing heat and humidity around with a bulldozer nine months out of the year.

Wow, Ian had snow before we did. Imagine that. Bet Ben had a little too.

I think the storms are just splitting around you.
the temps haven't really dropped until just this last week, I went fishing about 9 day's back and actually caught something.
I was getting a little ice forming on the wet line between the water and the pole, right before I bailed for home.

the poles are in the holder and the box is up on the shelf until I see wet moving water again.

Let me start by saying to ignore the info regarding the bullet. The 287B isn't in the data base so i selected a similar weight bullet and then changed the bullet length and OAL to fit my bullet.
I am seriously thinking about trying some WC 1680 in the revolver. It looks like it will take all I can fit in the case and the burn % isn't great but it should be as easy a launch as I can get. Pressure will be approaching max but I am not too worried about that.

Any comments? Am I way off base?

I like 1680 as you know.
any way if you want to test launch a case full of 3031 or 4895 would do that to the extreme.

I ran some tests with 1680 in the 9" FA 357 using 360 DW brass shortened to fit the cylinder. It actually worked pretty well for a 200 meter accuracy test, just couldn't quite get enough in the case with the RCBS180 Silhouette. About one grain shy of reaching the velocity goal. I was gonna have a bullet mold cut of the RCBS 180 with the crimp groove moved down to seat the bullet further out of the case, that project became one of those roundtoit projects when I was moving out of komifornia. I needed the velocity for 200 meter momentum on the rams.

So it sounds like it is doable. I'm not overly interested in velocity so that isn't an issue.
I have a feeling the muzzle blast and fireball will be spectacular.

As it warms up I have a longing for a decent range day. Time to get some cases trimmed and prepped and get some ammo loaded.

Yeah it's doable, my loads were heavily compressed. Had to seat and crimp in the same step because the powder pushed the bullet back out.

Yeah the velocity won't matter with what your doing, the paper don't care. My tests were with the much smaller 357 case, be interesting to see what accuracyt does in 414 brass. Don't forget your still dealing with a miss match of the revolver dimensions.

That mismatch is still an issue. I have an idea on that but need to get up the courage to go thru with it. The cylinder locks up pretty tight. If I thin the bolt stop a little the cylinder could have enough slop to let it align on firing.
Obviously the modification is permanent so I want a replacement part in hand before I do anything.

Were it me I would modify the replacement part and keep the original stock. That might help, is why production revolver are built with so much slop in them. To aid that keep the pin clean and well lubed so it's as free as possible.

That is a good plan Rick.
I will tear the cylinder down before spring and clean and lube it all well. I am always amazed at how little fouling gets down the pin.

Depends. If I am using the 445 brass I need to take a fair bit off so I use the lathe. If I need to take off just a touch I use my Hornady trimmer and a cordless drill.

In reality the lathe is better as it never leaves a burr, just a nice square mouth. Once set up it is pretty quick really.
