Well for starters, I know what it does, I guess I don't get the why? Obviously, someone paid good money to build this thing, I'm just wondering why. Thanks in advance for any input.

Paper patching .45 black powder rifle bullets.
Thank you, I just bought a copy of The Paper Jacket by Paul Matthews, hopefully, it will give me a lot more insight into these rounds. I had heard of them before but thought they were just something from the past.

Yep. Base is adjustable to vary the length/weight of the bullet. RCBS made a similar mould with a removable stem, I modified mine to be adjustable in a similar manner. If you're going to use it, I'd suggest adding another nut to lock the stem. Otherwise they have a tendency to self-adjust.

Ric nailed it.

they also made core molds like that but without the bullet shaped nose.
they were just a cylinder with the adjustable square base.
I have one for making 22 cal. jacketed bullet cores.
talk about tedious casting and a pot lasting forever.

Yeah, I got one of those in 30 cal and was wondering what it was used for. Thanks.
