458 win Mag in a Garand?

Brad,
I'd pay to see you shoot that one prone! If there were a way to stretch that action you could have one built in .458 Lott.

I would be willing to shoot it once!
Have shot 458 Win, and 460Weatherby.\
Not a lot of fun, but it was worth a try.
Put 3 rounds out of both of them. Was
much younger then, and I hope less wise
than I am at present.

Why? Because they can.
I wouldn't be interested at all. Bet that isn't a cheap conversion.

I wonder how long even a robust gun such as a Garand would hold up to a steady diet of .458s.

The bedding won't last long. Gas port size can keep the action from being damaged but the recoil still has to be accounted for.

Just damn! I shot a 458 Win Mag - ONCE! Converted 8MM Mauser. Very light for caliber rifle. And I have nice pocket under a high cheek bone. AND shot it from the bench! Hardest I have ever been hit in my life! Actually reached in to see if my teeth came loose! 375 H&H was a cream puff comparatively! Not sure I could imagine, or WANT, to shoot a 458 Win in a Garand. Heck, full bore 45-70 rounds in the Marlin 1895 are no fun...

I would only shoot the big, hard recoiling rifles offhand.
From the bench is just asking for problems.
