46-405V

Needing a plain base bullet to feed my 45-70's I looked at several options but kept coming back to Accurate's 46-405V. Seeing the success many here have posted with this bullet I figured it was a no brainer. Hopefully between the Marlins, Henry & 1886 they will all like this design.

They will LOVE the design. First load to try is 24 gr of 2400. It may be the last one you try for a while.

The 2400 load shoots lights out in my oldest Marlin. Plans are to load it for all of them. Such a pleasant load to shoot in a 45-70 with accuracy to boot! Almost want to try a BFR just to see. But not quite!

You can also go a bit wilder and try in the mid 40s with H322. Just hold on a bit harder with a Marlin. I got a plain base 420 gr bullet of very similar design to 1650 FPS or so. Shoots great and bears don’t like it.

I'll tell what hates my 45-70 the most is my lead stash.....:eek::eek:
Mine loves my lead stash, it just isn’t very frugal with it.
I have a Lee 6 cav mould for my 420 gr bullet. A pot drains fast.

I have experienced shooting in the 1800 to close to 1900 fps loads it the Marlin. I know all about the rattling the fillings in my teeth loads. Unless I’m pointing at something that could eat me I’m fine with low and slow.

you just have to remember the throat shape in the 86's.
most of them are cut right tight.

Ordered this mold Saturday afternoon and it’s waiting for me when I got home Thursday afternoon. How’s that for service! Thank you Tom!

Mold has been cleaned and it’s running through a heat cycle now. Hope to cast with it in the morning. I plan to test out a Lyman mag 25 also. Thanks to full lead taco’s video I also ordered the NOE mold guide.
