This has my mechanic gears turning .
I've worked on and built 1 or 2 crude but exotic tools in times where the cost of the correct tool exceeded the value of the job .

There is a manual tool that basically looks like a tubing flairing clamp block .
The tool is used to swage steel ferrel stop balls on steel cables in aircraft .
The 2 bars are harder than the tubing tool and instead of having pivoting studs it has grade 8 through bolts to pull closed in a straight line . In principal it will close up to a 5/16 cable ferrel down from 3/8 to 11/32 OD and makes that cable section inside the ferrel effectively a solid rod section per standards .

A picture of the tool here .

Something similar might be used for rimmed cartridges and this has served inspiration for a tool to eliminate the bulge turning for 6.5 Japanese from 308 family brass . The hardest part of making one specific to the cartridge is getting and keeping the hole centered in the 2 rod/blocks . No reason why there can't be 2-3 head dia in one tool .

My search also showed a crimp tool based on a bolt cutter type handle set so maybe the jaws could be purchased separately and put in a cheap pair of HF bolt cutters . We only have to squish a little brass not swage a SS ball on to a SS cable and make the cable a solid rod .
