I have had four of these rifles. I like the Mausers and this is a Commercial Mauser. Two have been 7mag. I have been working up loads for this one for a while. After re stocking and bedding. Then instaling new optic. Its become a very nice rifle. Light for a mag with a skinny barrel but is 24". I have owned for 7-8 years, but I Never took time to work ip a load. I found a 160Speer over H4350 shoots just over 1/2" groups. But "slow" at almost 2900.

I really want to be shooting a small score of Federal Terminal Ascent bullets. They are one awesome bullet. Long for weight @ 155g Hi BC for longer distance vel retention. I noticed they was longer then my 175's!!

Well... They will not stabilize and are inaccurate. Here is target.

I got it on the bench yesterday a d with a few tight patches and my bore scope I confirmed my fears... The barrel is twisted 1:10.25". I have never herd of such a 7mm barrel.

What do you guys say? Have you herd of this?

My 7mm RemMag has a 1:9 2/3" twist. It loves the Hornady 162gr. Interlock SpBt over a silly overload of H-4831 (in current manuals anyway, was a warm load in manuals available in the late 70's). It runs 2960fps and shoots plenty flat enough for me. The bullet performed great on Michigan whitetail and Montana Mule deer. It would be my go to rifle and load if I was to ever hunt elk out west.

your only option is to make them go faster.
or box them up and move them along.

if a 160gr. 7mm bullet won't do the job your going about it all wrong.
i don't even own any bullets that heavy... shrug... [heck my 8mm bullets barely make that weight] but the 7 has worked on all the Elk i've used it on.

The 160g is chosen as I feel it is about optimal for this caliber.

I have a 7/08 and a 7/30 for lighter bullets.

The 155g FTA is chosen because of its proven composition and preformance. I didn't initially consider any issues From its use, but as mentioned, I immediately noticed its sleek long length was even greater then the 175's I have tried. If you are not fermilular with this bullet. It is a combination of all the best things with a preformance specialty bullet. It has a solid copper base section, a bonded lead core, nose section. A sleek long aerodynamic shape with a special polycarbonate tip for high BC's. It's nose expands at lower velocities , because its bonded, wont likely shed that core at higher velocities and with its copper base will penetrate deeply regardless. All with that streamlined shape, it retains velocity and energy at long distances.

Im just looking to get everything out of a given caliber. (That it has to offer. Not looking to push things.)

Never saw this twist in a 7mm was biggest reason for thread.

My 7/08 is shooting Hornady 139's well under 1" @ 2750's. I got lucky and its sister load uses 140 Accubond seated lil shorter, impacting about 5/8" higher @ almost 2780 fps. This rifle is also shooting a 120 Sst with H335 to nearly 2950 2.5" higher. So if I needed them. But my 7/30 can also shoot 120's well under 3/4" @ 2700 fps. Its regular load is a 130 ssp over 4895 for under 1" groups @ 2630 ish fps.
So ya can see I'm well covered for lighter weights.

i run RL-19 in the X57's.
the old Tang safety likes the hornady 139 and the 140gr. rem corelock both right about 2750.
i run the same bullet another 125 fps. higher in the ICL.
the Charles Daly actually likes the same Hornady load as the Ruger, which is kind of a godsend.

i pissed around with other bullets and weights, and finally settled down on the one single bullet trick thing.
i got no complaints,, except maybe from some Deer, Elk, and a Moose that wasn't none too happy with the outcome.
there's been a few yote's, rock chucks, and rabbits over the years and even a pile of coots that were too dumb to figure out someone on the cliff above them was decimating their numbers as they kept swimming back and forth across the little pond they were on [could probably still get in trouble for that one] i guess i could throw a couple of fish, and some Grouse in there too.

My 7-08 is a grouse slayer with the flat based Hornady 154 grainer over a compressed load of AA-4350.
