A New mold

Bret4207

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Looks like one of the many 8mm Group Buy Moulds that proliferated in The Site Which Shall Not Be Named back around 2003-7 when 8mm Mausers were $49.00. I have a couple similar moulds, if not that exact copy. I'll try to remember to look.

Actually that design has enough lube grooves to be considered as a Loverin design, however the driving bands are too wide to be a true Loverin.

Ha ha Yup It will get powder coat!! Im more worried its "fat" then skinny...

Walks put a bug in my head about those fat 8mm's and add said nothing but 8mm/200.

I bought a 236 grain 8mm monster from Buckshot maybe 20 years ago. It has a similar multi-band form. I greased the gas check default-groove and the two above it and seated them over 16.0-18.0 grains of 2400, and they all left no doubts about primer function. They did shoot very well, though--and I took them deer hunting with me back when lead bullets weren't VERBOTEN for game-taking. No critters other than varmints fell to its connection, and I still have the mould in the shop. Maybe it needs a test-drive with Ian's Condor Cuddler Metal.......

Those are some wide bands for that style of bullet. That's gotta be a GB by someone that was worried about skidding.
If it isn't tapered, you'll likely have to seat it real deep...unless the gun you are shooting it in, has a severely worn throat.

I bought a second today. This one is a 170g 6.5mm. Again no actual diameter. So, Im hopping its 264 not 267!!

That sure looks like the original 2002 "oldfeller" Cruise Missile mold.
I had one, bought used in 2012 and sold in 2012 because it was too small for my custom T-38 Rifle.
I can't find a photo of the one I had, but my notebook says it dropped a 165gr out-of-round bullet. Base band .266-.267 ...the Front Band was .264-.265 and nose was .261

Javelin Hurling may expand within the Olympics if rifle bullet trends are any fashion barometer. :)

Keith SWCs favor wide bands as well. Wide drive bands likely do skid less, and that is aggravated by the fast twists required to stabilize long-for-caliber bullets. I think my G98/40 in 8 x 57 has a 4 turns/meter twist (1-9.75"). Many 6.5 x 55 service rifles use 5 turns/meter twist (1-7.9").
