Advice on a Hunting Tripod

Looking for a Tripod that's sturdy and able to hold a 13~15# gun. Carbon Fiber would be ideal, but looking for realtime examples.

I use a BOG POD tri pod for walk in gopher shooting. It's stabile, fairly light weight and isn't to bothered by wind. The heaviest rifle I use is about 11 1/2 pounds but the tri pod isn't bothered by it. The BOG POD came with the Y shaped top, but this has been replaced by a homemade aluminum top with a sausage bag rest. The sausage bag isn't particular about the tri pod being absolutely level. It isn't carbon fiber though.

I have a BogPod, but I wanted something heavier to support the rifle unattended. Your homemade top is great.

i've seen those ones you clamp the rifle in and it just sits there till your ready to pull the trigger.
no idea who makes them though.
every time i see one i think to myself why doesn't the guy just hook a camera to the rifle and stay home on the couch watching the game.

I also like it and have the bug pod. But like you said, it's not for clipping the gun into and leaving it unattended. There's another bug product death grip I think it's called I have one I use it for cleaning guns and when I'm hunting in the blind. Because it's very heavy and quite bulky, but it works very well.

I'm using an old all aluminum camera tripod, for the last thirty years. For stability, it must have the additional supports between the legs. Stay away from those that have plastic leg adjusting clamps..................they become brittle over time. I too make my own gun rests out of aluminum channel stock.
