Alcan 9456

Does anyone have data using this powder? Is it ok to use as a cast bullet powder like the label suggests? I wanted the collective input on this before i started putting it in rifles or heck even pistols.

Well I have the Lyman manual which has tons of data for AA5744, I guess my question is: How do you make the bridge between the Alcan and Accurate? Jeff at GI didn't do any scientific testing.

If they didn't want people using 5744 data, why would they write that on the label of the powder ?

With surplus powder that is how it works. You start low for the suggested data powder and pay attention.
My WC820 says use H110 data, I find it behaves more like AA9 so that is what I treat it as.
A chronograph can really help.

Exactly, start with suggested loads , watch your chrony and progress with caution.

Perhaps data for 5744? I agree, if Alcan didn't want 5744 data used with that powder it wouldn't be on the label.

I doubt Alcan (defunct for years, I think) had anything to do with the
label, but the salvager did.

Start with 5744 data and a bit lower than normal starting and chrono to see
how it goes. Normal drill with surplus/salvaged powders.

I got some Alcan 9450 from Jeff. He said it's similar to SR4759.
Yep, I used data from Lyman CBHB#4 for SR4759 and started a bit low.
My chrony said I was within 100fps to book data.

Heck, sometimes the stuff with the real label on it won't run any
closer than that to book data!

Thanks JonB, I will work up some loads for the 45-70 once I get the 30-06 took care of.
