They sell you hearing aids for only one reason, to make money. I had lost all of my high frequency hearing from a youth with too much helicopter, machineguns, handguns and siren's. Low frequency I hear just fine. So after five years of use, I am still deaf in the same high frequencies. Hearing aids don't help deaf

My best friend is hard of hearing. The new tech digital hears aids are like miracles for him, because he was head of hearing, not deaf.

I think men going deaf is Mother Nature's way of keeping marriages together.
At least till the wives get tired of their husbands' constant "huh?"

In my case it was working on flightlines full of F-100s and F-4s, and live-fire sighting-in of M-39 20 mm cannons without the supposed-to-have-been-issued hearing protection. I do thank the American taxpayers for my V. A. issued hearing aids.

25 years of re-enacting the American Revolution has taken it's toll for me ! Being a rifle company & Light infantry....we were always put out in front of the Guns! When they gave the order for the canons to fire we went down on our bellies! Concussion waves were very bad especially with the 6 PDR's We did this for the public so they could have a taste of history! Never used protection so they can see what really took place .....
Very foolish!
My brother, who is a real "Vet" gave me his old set because he got a super new set from the VA!
Problem I have is they were "tuned" to his hearing loss which was high frequency..... But mine is "low" frequency! He said I may be able to get them adjusted....but I'm stubborn

I think there is an expression "Penny-wise and Pound foolish" and there is another , "Never regret your economies". I was a perfect example of the former when buying hearing aids. I went through 3 sets until I finally decided to "forget" , rather than "regret" my economies and got a good set. I ended up wasting more on the "inexpensive " sets than I spent on the good ones. They are tuned to my specific losses and they even BlueTooth to my iPhone. They are fantastic. Expensive, but worth every penny ($6600.)

they can tune the new ones to your specific hearing over your smart phone now too.

Dad used to lose patience when I would stop and put my hands over my ears as he ran the chainsaw and belt sander. My older brother did not "need" these things. Then when we were teenagers, we used hearing muffs to go to the range. Dad got them for both of us boys, and himself. When the sound-blocking electronic muffs came out, and the prices became reasonable, Dad got some of them, and we could carry on a conversation at the range. They actually helped Dad's hearing in those circumstances.
He gave me a pair about ten years before he died. I burned up the electronics by using "heavy duty" nine-volts instead of standard batteries. I still have them, and I used them when working on church work projects, around loud equipment, and later as a drywall helper. What's amazing is, I could still hear conversation through them at these worksites, because all the other guys are either ridiculing the muffs, or hollering at each other...

On this past October 20th I drove up to the Cities to the VA for eyeglasses and new hearing aids, it was my first experience with them. I have new glasses as promised, but still no hearing aids. The guy working there reminded me of a girlie man when he began complaining about having to work too hard. I was told the new aids would be mailed out in about 4 weeks and I could come back around 15 February for a tune up. So, yesterday I received the appointment notification from the VA for February 17th at audiology. Still no hearing aids so I am wondering if they are there or I must start the process all over again and is the whining, girlie man still there?

Pressman, it's been my V. A. experience that the hearing aids are mailed directly to the local audiology department. Because you've received an appointment notification, I suspect they arrived.

Much like the "Hearing loss/marriage happiness" relationship, as my age increases and hearing acuity dissipates, I have found that there are far fewer things I care to listen to than in times past. I view hearing loss as a life upgrade for this reason.

My squadron had E-models, but the other three had D-models.

When I got mine they hooked them up to computer to program to your needs. Must be done at VA. Good luck.
