Alternative cast for 35 rem

I've been playing around with alternative cast loads to my standard 35 Remington cast -- rcbs 35-200.

So far, have had great luck with 358429, and not so great luck with a 358432. I just got an rcbs 38-162-swc from S Mac, and so far dummy rounds load and feed great!

Others I plan to play with is the Lee 358-125 RF and 358477.

Any thoughts on your favorite loads for the 35 rem???

I use powder-coated, gas-checked Lee C358-200-RF bullets with a full-power load of H335 and CCI 200 primers almost exclusively.

In the past I've played with plain-based revolver bullets of several sorts using pistol powder and had good results, but I'm over it now and tend to use other leverguns chambered in revolver cartridges for low-velocity fun.

I've had great luck with H335 with the full bore loads... Works amazing! But I don't want to beat up the ol' waffletop with that steady diet.

My plinking with rcbs 35-200, uses it without g/c, unsized, LLA, And over trailboss. Tight clusters for metal silhouettes. Still want to find out something else to play with. Thanks!

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
My Marlin 444 feeds swc's well, give it a go. I do use a gc mould.

Mine is a 51 standard rifling. It came with several 250 gr RCBS bullets and does well with the Saeco 352 @245 gr. I am not sure how any of that transfers to Microgroove if yours is so equipped. IMR 4895 is your friend with the heavies.

I have a '51 SC and a 70's C. I'm thinking about using 4895 or 3031 for g/c heavies. Thinking a RD mould 360-230-rf would be a fun thumper. Thanks!!

Not doubting you Mac but my .444 Marlin won't feed the 429244 unless I seat it over the top of the last land ahead of the crimp groove. So, one might try that if the SWC's get hung up. Make sure you have enough neck tesion so they don't get shoved in deeper though.

I have had good luck with my favorite 357 Max bullet the Lyman 358627.
It does eat powder cap but works well when extra weight is needed.

Another choice might be the 358430 bullet. Its offered in two weights Im speaking to the 200g.

It also steals powder capacity.

But the RCBS/LEE 35-200RF and the MP 358-200 are king for me. I like the MP 359-220 in my 358. (Exact profile just heavier, W/proper hp pin for rifle.)

Har! Older Marlin owners get it!

I picked up a 35-180 FN GC GB some years back. I thought it was Buckshots design but he says no. Anyway, it makes a nice lighter load when the 2 at a time RCBS 35-200FN isn't quite so appealing. My 35 is a '53 (IIRC) SC and seems to shoot anything I put in it with equal happiness.
