I have seen a few. Introduced after the discontinue of the Model 1920. WWII stopped production of hunting guns and Savage introduced the 340 series sfter the war.

Had three or four over the years. But only in 30/06 and no others. While they shot well, good barrels, the magazines were the weak point as they often failed to feed. The after market ones were even worse. It is reported that they cost half of what a 1920 model cost to make, but sold for only 10% less. Remington adapted the barrel lug idea to keep from having to do fine machine work in the 720 models.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I've seen one in 30-06. The pictured example appears to have had some customizing done and is in fine shape from the looks. The Super Sporter was a real let down from the M-1920 and really wasn't a very good feeling rifle IMO. I sometimes wonder if Savage, H+R and Mossberg didn't have some backroom competition for "ugliest rifle that will still sell". Remington was in there for a while too until the 700 came out.

Hoping to get this to the range this week. I'll make a video on how it shoots. It's a really nice rifle glass smooth bolt.! CW

Nice looking rifle!
Is the bolt handle root the only locking lug?
I’ve seen a couple over the years at gun shows but never handled one.
