Bergara rifles....

get it now, stand in line, push down an old lady, whatever it takes.

my one and only complaint is that the comb is about 3/8" too low for me with the scope rings I put on the rifle.
a 12$ wrap from Wal-Mart with a little zippered compartment fixed that problem.

even with the 200$ Vortex I put on the rifle it has only shot sub moa groups, the largest group I have shot with it has been 3/4" with my home swaged bullets.
it is a little picky about cartridge placement in the magazine, if I'm not paying attention it feeds so smooth I have to double check that it picked up the second round.
it has a cocking indicator, the trigger is super smooth, it doesn't weigh 9 lbs.
the magazine opens and dumps the rounds out and latches closed again like it should.

I have been tempted to turn it into a cast bullet gun, but [shrug] I just can't do it.
I drag it out take it hunting and put it away.
I put together a load [basically picked one] and have never tried changing it.
not the powder amount, not the oal, nuthin.
I have only missed one shot in the field with it [out of 6 deer] and that was on a Buck at @ 350 yds with no type of rest. [and me sucking wind] the second one didn't miss.

Caliber? I'm looking at an '06 with the green composite stock. This one will be a dedicated cast Bullet gun. Look at the link in the optics section to see the scope I'm looking at.
Is $629 a good price?

it is a good price.
your looking at a Ruger price for a 'custom' rifle.
I have the 0-6 too, I was kicking the 6.5 Creedmore around for a while but the one they had was wood, and I was looking for a hunting rifle.
heck I wasn't really even looking for a rifle, but when I seen them I had to have one.

I'm really surprised these rifles haven't caught on better.
I have tried to scuff mine up pretty badly.
it's been on a couple of back pack trips, hauled around on a 4 wheeler for 15-20 day's, rode in the truck a couple thousand miles, and it has like one little nick on the barrel where the SIL dropped it against a piece of marble in his house.

I would give it a go at your normal long distance shooting you might just be surprised.

I'm looking to sell one of my trucks. If I do, I think this rifle is next on my list. I only have one '06 in the safe. A Ruger Hawkeye. It's my all around hunting rig. I want something for just paper punching with cast. This one looks cool at a decent price. I've read good things about their (Bergara) barrles.

you gotta remember I am their unofficial spokesman...:D
but I got that way because their rifles just do what they are supposed to do.

I like my Rugers too, but I am at the point that if Bergara makes the caliber I want then I get the rifle.
if they don't I'd order one of their barrels for one of my other rifles..
they are kind of like the old 700's and model 70's, you just knew you were getting a rifle without issues.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Maybe I missed it, but what kind of action are they using? Looks kind of 700-ish. Is it their own?

kind of 700 kind of what I'd call Howa.
the bolt is very simple kind of a 700 front half almost a savage/Howa style back half.
the action isn't a round tube but has the angular sides with a port similar to how Ruger cut's theirs.
with a Mauser style Box magazine.
Howa or Weatherby like maybe I'm not real familiar with those actions but it resembles those from what I remember.

The more reviews I read, and the more videos I watch makes me want one more and more.

this guy's review is about as good as it gets.
you'll notice his scope sits a touch too high for him too, but as he figures things out it starts to work for him.

Waco, was at a gun store maaaaybe a month and half ago. There was a new, wood stocked, bright blue version on the rack behind the counter. It was in a lineup of Rugers,Rems, and I spottedit immediately.Like a pretty girl stands out, hard to describe. Owner is a good friend and I've helped put his kids through school so with him watching and grinning...... I walked around the counter and grabbed it.

First one I've ever seen, first one for the dealer friend.Didn't want to start jacking the action,so was polite. You aren't going to be disappointed.Very smooth action with a crisp enough trigger break.Wood and finish were price pointed towards beating Tikka's and Sako's.... about on par.

I know that explanation wasn't very good so I posted that review video.
the guy isn't that good of a shooter, or the ammo sucks or something.
I would be pretty damn disappointed with some of the groups he shows with some of my open sight rifles.
but he does show the rifle itself pretty well, and you can see how it works and what you can expect straight out of the box.

Scheels in Omaha had a few at 699. Nothing I was that excited about as I was looking at leverguns. The 06 would make a nice cast shooter.

Are their chambers pretty good? Not too loose in the neck?

I must admit that an 06 is never a bad choice for shooting cast.

I just measured 3 random federal cases fired with 49.6grs of IMR-4064, they all measured on the 339 line
about half way down the neck.
so not match chamber tight but not sloppy loose.
a 311 cast bullet with .0012 thick brass would have .002 each side clearance.
I could spin the case around and not see any fluctuation.

That is pretty darn good for a factory rifle.
A smooth bore, good chamber, nice neck dimension, and good throats angles makes for a good shooter.
I can now understand why you like yours.
