Brass issue

What would cause this? Everyone is split. I was getting some weird accuracy issues today. I even had a couple of bullets go missing from the target. They did not hit it. This is 1x fired Starline brass. This barrel has less than 100 rnds through it. It is a WOA SPR fluted SS 1-8 tw with mid gas in 223 wylde. I already talked to them before about the gas port wear as it had more wear on it than other barrels that had over 1500rds through them. At the time it had 20 rds when I emailed them. It catches a patch when you push it through. You can really see in the chamber where each case split.

My call is that something is off with the brass, could be the anneal, or issue with the alloy of that particular batch of brass. Starline buys the raw pellets by the tons, then forms them from there. Pretty amazing process form a little plug of brass to a finished case, took a tour at their plant 4-5 years ago. Give Starline a call on Monday at 800-280-6660, and/or send them an email- info@starlinebrass.com

The only time I saw cases that looked like that was with old military surplus 7x57 ammo that I purchased with a Model 95 Mauser in a barrel at Kmart. The ammo had verdigris growing on it that I cleaned off with steel wool. About every 3rd round would get similar vertically split cases. I chalked it up to old corrosion weakened brass.

Contact Starline and show them the pictures. They might have a better idea of what is going on.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Brass or the chamber I would opine. Starline has a great rep, but I suppose even they could get a batch of substandard material.

They don't look bulged so I would say the brass has a serious issue. Maybe internal corrosion?

Brass missed a tempering step somewhere. If it were the chamber the first one that split would still be in there.

I have some more sitting in a container that needs processed yet. They were 1st shot out of one of the other ar's I have. Brass is over a year old so it was made back in the bat flu era. There is so much stuff I have got from then that is complete garbage. I have a friend that is a Type 7 ffl. He had to stop building rifles from the parts he was getting from almost every supplier was junk. He told me to not buy anything because of this back then. But I did not listen.

It looks like that has bit me in the rear again. I scoped the barrel. Did not see anything. But the chamber you could see were all the different pieces had split. I used a Military chamber brush to spin a few turns in the chamber. It looks fine. But you can still see small areas it split.

I loaded up a whole new set of loads late last night with some Remington and PMC brass. I should have known not to use this junk starline brass. I have seen way too many people getting junk brass. They have had several issues I have seen with the 223 brass over the last 3 years. They seem to keep making some lots with 5-6gr less capacity than other lots. The other is the 350 Legend brass with low case webs and turning brass into belted mag brass.

I'm going to try to get back out today to test some more loads
