CFE BLK

Have any of you guys tried this powder yet? It looks to be about the same burn rate as SR4759
Kinda in between AA1680 and RX7
It gives nice velocities with the lowest pressure.
I might grab a pound and try it out. I'm guessing it has a lot of other uses other than the 300blk....

Interesting. I sorta blew off the new lines of powders for the most part, but if CFE is where you say it is on the burn chart it will be VERY handy for a whole lot of things that don't even involve copper bullets.

I got a pound to try in my 17 hornet, another project not done yet.

Ian, there are three CFE labeled powders now, CFE223, CFE pistol and now CFE BLK.

I hope but highly doubt it will work as SR 4759.

I knew of the 223 and the pistol.
I need more powder like a need another hole in my head.

Seems to me that there are about 4-5 new powders introduced every year.
Tis sort of like new models of cars being introduced every year. It's called
marketing I think!

Agree, Paul. Same thing as the dozen-odd "new" cartridges that are introduced every year when in reality the same six that have been around for a hundred years will do all that really needs doing, anywhere on the planet.

I'm still waiting for a powder that duplicates every performance characteristic of Unique but has twice the physical bulk. THAT would be useful. Also, a powder with the burn rate of 4350 that burns cleanly and consistently at 20K psi would be nice, too.

Yep Ian, the powder that dups every performance of Unique but has twice the physical bulk
would be useful, actually it would be great! Would immediately be in the market for an
8 pounder of it! And as to new ctgs, you hit it on the head. Great minds must think alike!

I sometimes wonder if they don't just screw up at the powder plant.
then figure out the screw up, assign it a new name and turn it over to the advertising department.

Ha! No, that's Promo, at least with Alliant. Hodgdon just figures out whatever it's closest to and sticks a label on it. I've had 748 that was slow enough to be H335.

I've started playing with it in BO for heavy supers, no conclusion yet. CFEpistol works OK but takes a little more powder due to the coating/CFE stuff.

Now Ian, you know as well as I do, if your statement were true in concept, Powder company's would be out of business in short order. If they don't produce "new" product, it's hard to continue to pay overhead and make a profit.

Yeah, because there's no way we could have gotten by on just the powders available in 1970, and if no new flavors of the week had been introduced since then I'm sure we all would have just quit buying powder altogether and given up reloading decades ago.

I really didn't want to start an argument. I just thought the burn rate of this powder looked to be very close to SR4759.
I'm going to buy a pound and give it a try. I have ALL kinds of powders in the shop. Some I still have not even opened yet.(powder shortage times)
The high velocities and low pressures is what caught my eye besides it's place on the burn rate chart.

I will be interested to see how it works. Sometimes a new powder comes along that just fills a specific niche very well when nothing else is quite as good.

Manufacturers aren't interested in what we NEED, they always work to make what we WANT. Needs don't cause money to be spent, wants do.

Powder Valley has it for about $22. I think I'll slip down the road a few miles and nab a trial batch. I really like the CFE223 and this might just be the ticket for the 300.

I like the cfe-223 powder too, I ain't tried it in the 223 yet and probably won't, but I like it.

For cast, I get along very well with Unique, 2400, and Rx7. BUT I seem to have
to buy a pound of durn near every thing else, just to try. Ya, dumb I know!

I do use CFE223 for loading 223 and works as advertised, at least for me. However, I haven't tried it in anything else.
