Cleaning Kit

Seems that most of the rifles that I'm interested in at a gun show always have dirty bores. Seems that many sellers will bring a rifle to the show that is intentionally left dirty to hide bore problems.

I simply refuse to buy a rifle that I cannot examine the bore in !

Carrying a metal cleaning rod all through the show isn't practical.
I'm using a nice pull thru system ( the idea is well over 100 years old, BTW ) now and have it all in a short piece of 3/4 " PVC.

Room inside for the pull thru & 5 patches appropriate for .270 - 45 cal. Works with 32" inch barrels and shorter. Nothing to scratch the interior of the bore.

Easy to drop in your back pocket once you enter the gun show.
Also nice to take with you on a hunting trip. The red end has been glued on with PVC cement. The other end is a tight friction fit.

I'm happy with the finished product.

Grew up with Dad always, and only using a home made pull thru for shotgun.
Never cleaned 22 Rimfire, but when it came to centerfire's, broke down and
bought a cleaning kit.

Paul,

I've seen the time when I wish I could have reached into my back pocket for this one. :):):)

Simple solutions are often the best.
Makes perfect sense to me Ben. Easier than carrying a rod with you.

The left dirty at gun shows, is quite prevalent. An old gunshow trick I have been told,
was to run a few patches thru a pitted bbl with clear shoe polish to cover/hide the
pits.

Here's pics of one I have been carrying for years in my hunting pack. Would work fine for gun shows as well, the flexible rod is 30" long.

Ah Yes, much nicer than mine.
I'll be on the look out for one like that one.

I have one of the round kits from Otis, and take it when on guided hunting
trips. Handy thing.

Ben's is a great idea for exactly what he uses it for. Real PITA for a buyer when
the bore is so cruddy with dust you can't tell much. Great idea, Ben.
