Couple of press questions?

I am setting up a used Mag II press. It is sound and not worn out. Will this press handle commom cast bullet chores like nose first sizing and check seating?

Also I am considering a second cheaper press to add to my bench for quick jobs and depriming. no case forming! Does the little open frame Lee press handle such chores without springing the frame?

Nose first sizing and check seating are pretty low force operations. They require far less force than full length sizing a case or case forming.

Both of those presses will easily handle the chores you have for them.

I bought one of the little Lee presses about a year ago..I use it mainly for bullet sizing ..for that it is OK...I tried it for FL sizing .308 and 30-06..it is some what lacking for that job..
In retrospect I would have been far better off with another Lyman Spatan press..why..the Lyaman lines up better and more importantly the angle of the press body to the bench is far better..the lee is almost perpendicular..the lyman is about 15-20 deg......strangely enough when using the Lee Sizing Kit that 20 deg. angle helps the bullets fall into the container..it also allows you to see what is going on and access the press better...IF you use a press much in the standing position...for sizing bullets I think I am going to get one of the Lee's that has the tool head with four ports so I can screw all my sizers in and then all I have to do is rotate the tool head to the one I want..BUT I will be making a shim to go under it..

Short answer..I don't think I would buy another...but I would buy another Lyman Spartan or similar press..

I got one of the little LEE C-type presses years ago when they were giving them away with their book,
it was used with my Dillon size-trim motor for years.
[actually that is all it ever got used for]
I'd bet it has full length sized something like 60-K various cases from 223 up through the 30-06.
I even once considered buying about 8 of them and just setting them up with various size/trim die's permanently mounted in them.

Even the lee hand press will do what your wanting to do and have the portability to use where ever you want. Some Decap brass while watching TV. Take it to the range, out in the garage, barn where ever.
Like the others said, your on the right track.

Randy Buchanan makes a portable type hand press that is probably as good as a hand press can get.
