Deer Bullets

Yeah, the LEE bullet. Tom went overboard on casting them a year ago or so, and gave me a couple thousand of them. A couple of months ago I started getting things together to powdercoat, and he and Tyler at the gunshop gave me four different color samples of powders left over from custom orders. The green works pretty well, but yellow sucks even worse than fiver said it would. These have two coats, and still aren't completely covered. There will not be a third coat. Coming up next- pink & purple, leftovers from a custom ladies compound bow.

Nothing runs like a deer. Dad taught me to drive a tractor when I was 5 years old. JD 4020.

just gotta watch the size.
I done up some 358091's then couldn't chamber them.
had a heck of a time sizing them in the star too.
gave that up and started shaping them in a tapered crimp die after I seated them in the case.

I'm probably done with using the yellow. These are for short range 9mm use on steel, and the guys told me the yellow powder didn't work great. The powder seems finer than the green did, and somehow lighter. When I opened the bag, I'd get a big puff of dust out of it, and the dust seemed to hang in the air for some time. I was already wearing a Gerson P95, so it was just a matter of extra cleanup.

even though it is splotchy looking I'd bet there is still coverage there.
if it feels smooth then a clear coating is in place and is covering the lead.

I would probably just use it like I do the harbor freight red I have and just cut other powders with it.
I use a darker grey [randy rat's] color about 4-1 to the red to give me a light colored silver/purple cooked color.
it gives me a nice full coverage that is very smooth and consistent.

Does Randy have a website yet? I got seriously pissed at the Timmy & Larry show a few years back and made Robert delete my account.

There did seem to be a clear coat over the uncovered area. I double-coated because they looked so horrid. The second coat was too much coverage, and I have blobs in areas. They should still be okay to use for banging steel out to about 50 yards or so. I know I won't be powdercoating for anything long range.

My next 'sperment will center around 2K epoxy paint, and Hexagonal Boron Nitride (HBN).

I thought Randy had registered here by popular demand, but I don't see him on the members list. I'm sure someone has his address recorded, I know I do but it's 1000 miles from here.

If you want to be "self-sufficient" you can always go straight to the small-lot industry suppliers, Powderbuythepound and Prismatic Powders. A pound of powder costs $15-25 plus freight and will do about 10K bullets if you apply per shake/pick/bake.

I've been to both websites in the past. I have plenty for now, but need to be looking towards the next step.

I took advantage of Randy's initial sale some time back and got 2 lbs for like 15$
I was gonna get more but realized 2 lbs is enough for like 63 trillion bullets.
smokes powder is top of the line stuff too and it's reasonably priced.
if you want easy and good coverage a blue is your best bet.

Interesting. The best one we've found so far has been a purple. It seems to have the best characteristics, but we honestly haven't tried any straight blues yet. I'll start there.

+1 on blue being tops. Not sure why, but it covers best and flows out the best of all the colors I've tried.

With smoke's powders I have had good coverage with flame red, blue, jd green and jet black. Agree that blue is very good.

I agree with you fiver, smokes powder is top rate stuff. The clear GLOSS also provides excellent coverage with a single coat.

I have to plug Randy's powder.
I tried it and it is the easiest powder yet!
I have 4 colors from smoke and they work well almost to well I end up with thick coats like 4 thou thick.
Randy's powder is super consistant and has amazing flow property's.
It covers very well even when applied very sparingly.
I even quit using the bb's.

I bought eight pounds of it!
I think I am set for life :):)
