IMG_0068.JPG IMG_0067.JPG Just added these stabilized elk grips to my Defender. Still waiting for the grip tape to arrive so I can add a strip to the front strap. Supplied with flat Allen head screws and Allen wrench. I did shoot it with wood grip panels and had no trouble with control.

Spresser custom grips. $145 + $6.50 shipping. He made a couple sets and sent pictures for me to choose. Got them quick.

The Colt medallion is a very nice touch, sharp looking grips. I have a Springfield Micro compact (lightweight) that I added the tape to the front strap, it make s a big difference. My MC gets a lot of use, really like that thing.

Medallions were not an additional cost. Choice of gold or silver. Gives a choice of grip screws also.

My understanding is stabilizing elk antler hardens the material. Elk antler has a porous core. Kind of honeycomb looking.

you just let them sit and dry out.
about the inside 3/4" is the porous soft part, it's similar to bone marrow.
to stabilize antlers you give them at least a 90 day drying period, everything dries and shrinks and tightens up.

to make a knife or something else with a antler handle you need to boil it to get that inner part soft and somewhat flexible again, then you insert the metal while it's hot and soft, then you just let everything cool in place.
if you use a flat longer tang it will be in there about as permanent as using a 2 part epoxy or JB weld.

we make all kinds of stuff out of antlers.
knife handles, candle holders, lid lifters for Dutch ovens, utensil handles, marshmallow forks, bolo ties, coat racks, hangers for my garden hoses, buttons, I hang stuff in the Garage on them, use them for decorations around the garage windows, all kinds of stuff.
I even made the bottom half of a fishing pole handle from a long straight deer antler for a kid I was mentoring some time back.
never made pistol grips from them though.

Nice grips. Not sure what kind of grip tape you are looking for but I found tape at Home Depot next to the masking tape. This tape is the kind of stuff that is used on step ladder rungs for traction. Have had it on my M&P front strap and a couple spots on the sides. Been on for a bunch of shooting and cleanings and no sign of letting go.

What I put on the front strap is GT-5000 grip tape. Does not have the rough non skid feel. The rough surface is rubber so it really gives a good grip without being abrasive. I had to go back offshore to work before I could try it out. I'll get to do some shooting with it hopefully in a couple days. I'll post a picture with the tape. Also have to install some Trijicon night sights.

Really, really nice grips..I tried a pair several hundred years ago, loved the looks but they were a little too thick for my small hands..

Beautiful stocks!

Hopefully someone has tunned that defender, in case they haven't I would highly encourage eye protection & a hat on your first outing.

An EGW practical extractor and a square bottom firing pin stop tamed my Micro compact. The brass is near by and the recoil w/230 Ball is very manageable.
