try the 225438, looks like they're making them with almost no step at the front band now, which would be a good thing.

Dunno about making them without a step "now", this one is about 25-30 years old. It's done pretty well in several single shot pistols for me, never did try it in a rifle but I don't see why not.

Rick, I've seen a much older one which had a bit more of a step, making the nose base smaller than typical bore diameters. Good they've had that "fixed" (IMO) for a long time. Someone gifted me a couple hundred of ones that looked just like yours when I was doing a .223 workup for a friend a few years ago and they did better than my RCBS 55 in that particular rifle.

Bullet on the left is the original RCBS 55 gr. Next to it is the RCBS 60 gr. On the right is the current RCBS 55 gr.

the one on the right is the one I mostly use.

the one is a plain base for the 218 BEE.
I finalized the nose shape through some E-mails about a year back. [moved that .219 area back about 25%]
I don't see this one in their catalogue but I bet if you ask Jared he can still cut it.
it was made big in the back so a second cherry could be made with a gas check shank, and so it could intrude in the case on a shorter necked round.
I don't know if they followed through on that or not.
the bullet was intended to be powder coated or tumble lubed straight from the mold or pushed trough a lube sizer.
powder coating would make the nose about .221 at the base and the body .227 perfect for a .001 size down.

I had a 12" twist 24" barrel Savage . It liked the NOE 255-55 @ 62gr up to 2600 fps .

I bought a 225-37 PB 5C with the intention of an LR replacement . That mould is for sale if you're interested . Drops my alloy @ 226-37 . I'm not up to chasing lube . I ran it 3x .
I'll send it for the sale price on a 4c .

Quick,very good shooting!

If that's represented consistently it's gonna get real "interesting" to improve on.

Plenty of info out there,so's you pays your money and give it a whirl.....for me;Once the powder, fit, jam, run out is settled on(rarely jack with lead recipe, and never change lube).....the groups have stabilized and very importantly, learning the barrels sensitivity curve(Dr Phil),it's back to square one with the rig.Checking and adj parallax is right up near the top.In way more cases than anyone possibly wants to admit?Fixed objective scopes have an advantage here due to fewer parts.Something as simple as seal pressure on the objective shows up on target as a potential,.1" or .2";not taking away from adj objective scopes, they're the poop for hunting/changing ydg.But....and that's a big BUT,it ain't the end all chasing bugholes.Just as fixed power scopes and frozen dials eliminate shlop,so does fixed objectives....set mine at about 80? for shooting at 100.And don't write that ydg in stone because this is exactly what we're trying to accomplish, and why it's a crapshoot from the factory. It needs to be set for your vision.Anyway, best of luck, the interesting part of your journey is starting.BW

not that hard, just push on the OCD button.
I designed a plain base 38gr mold for arsenal about a year back, but it looks like they added a gas check and changed it to about 45grs.
it looked a lot like this one only with more rear drive band.
if AL does his normal +.002 this one would be just right.
most 22 cal rifles are 227 in the ball seat area.
the nose should bump up about the same .002 putting it real close.
[getting the alloy up closer to 5/5/90 will bring things right in line]
then it's just a matter of looking for an accuracy node starting at about 1900 and moving forward.
bet you can get real close to 2700 with no real problems.

The bullet Lamar pictures here has been the most accurate for me in slow twist barrels (1 in 14") I run them 3000fps in my Hornets with varmint accuracy as well. A 1 1/2gr hollow point in them also shoots great..... And a ground squirrel hit with one is a sight to behold!

Dan, Of all of my rifles, my 222 (722 Rem/Saeco Bbl) is the most accurate.
With cast have had the best luck with blts from the NOE 37 gr, the 225438HP, and
225415HP. Decent results with heavier bullets, but not quite as good as the smaller
ones. I find in my rifle I get excellent accuracy at vols between 2100-2400 with
bullets, in the 22-24 BH range.

Paul...I'm on the hunt for a lighter bullet.....in the mean time I couldn't pass this up....https://www.midwayusa.com/product/5...er-225-diameter-55-grain-semi-point-gas-check
Now for the lee sizing die and the lube die for the 450 ...oh and the "M"die
I tried "The" load for the .222 ...apparently my gun doesn't care too much for it (right group)

)...that's OK 'cause it likes the RX7..

This is making me feel better about myself 'cause I'm still getting fliers with jacketed....so it's my shooting and not my cast bullets:confused:...might be my cases though...:)

I am an old fan of the .222 and have had various rifles in this caliber. My current rifle is an old Remington 722 with 26" barrel. This rifle belonged to a friend of mine and was willed to me. This friend was an amateur gunsmith and a very good one. He checkered the stock and improved the trigger he also raised the comb for better use of a scope. This rifle does very well with H4895 and 50 gr. bullets. As I said I have various other .222s but this one is here to stay.

I would suggest a Lyman 225642
I'm betting telebasher meant to recommend the 225462. I have tried a variety of different 22 cal casties but the old 225462 (rngc) still produces the most conistant groups in my hornet. Lubed and checked it is right at 60 grains but does well to 2400 fps. in the hornet. I can't imagine it wouldn't be pretty wonderful in a triple deuce.
