FWIW

Ran up on some useful solder for alloying. Was down at the farmer's co-op, they have K-T industries solid wire solder, 50/50, also have some 40/60 Sn/Pb but it's acid core so guess that wouldn't be so good. Comes in 1# rolls. GW

I have a little 4 lb melting pot I use for the acid core stuff I run across.
the flux is amazing at cleaning lead alloys but breathing it in is not something I can handle.

I run a cord out in the yard, cram the acid solder in the pot, and plug it in at the house and watch it melt from about 50' away then go fetch the tin rich alloy.

Nothing wrong using acid core solder but do it as Fiver says, outside and preferably with a breeze blowing. Breathing that smoke can't be good but it does burn off saving some great alloy.
