Good day for casting and a few other things too!

I was able to cast 3 different bullets today. I hope to get most of my casting done for the year before those 90-98 degree days arrive. I cast some of the 150 gr RFN for the 357, 35 cal 245 gr RN and some of the 358-100 gr. I found the 358-100 mold the other day while looking for something else. I forget I bought it but it looks like it could be a fun plinking bullet.

Between casting I wet tumbled 100 30/06 and 90 35 Remington cases. I love the way the wet tumbler cleans the brass. I also painted a Lyman 45 I am rebuilding (inspired by Ben). In between all that I applied the decal rivets to 4 Norfolk & Western dynamometer cars I am building for my clients.

All in all, it was a good day. Whew, I tired!

Brother,
Nice! I too have been spending much time casting at this time of year! Get it done now. The only thing I regret is I missed my November smelting because of my sciatica problem I had back then. I'm going to have to try to get it into the loop before June and the heat sets in! I have a few hundred pounds that needs to be done to free up some space in my basement!
Those Rivet decals look super!

Brother,I do have a very gun related question about your train work.

Asumming here(dangerous),but do you use magnifiers?I have a cpl here,an articulated, typical lighted one stays in shop.A nice old vintage example is in the loading room.

Very interested in your, experience or recommendations for aging eyes in the gun room?

WOW!!!...very organized,,,good looking bullets....

It's always nice to know you have back up inventory....and clean to boot.!!!

That 45 is looking really good looking too and is going to be a real blast to the past when you get it mounted to a bench !

Onward Brother...:)

Thanks, the 45 is operational and earning its keep. It is already 80+ here in February so I need to cast more before the real summer gets here.

I use a magnifying visor (Opti-visor) to see all the detail work that needs to be done. Today I have to drill 336 # 74 holes to add more details!

You're doing a fantastic job on that Lyman 45.
I have my doubts that it looked that good when it left Lyman.

Wow, you did have a productive day. I've got to get one of those 245 gr. rn 35 cal. moulds to try one day.
Great job on the 45 and the casts and the brass look great too.

Brother_Love;
It looks like you have been VERY productive! Good lookin' PRODUCTS, too!
It has been unseasonably warm, here too (SW Ohio). Yesterday we set four records for temps in the winter (it was 78 degrees, warmest since 1870, warmest day in winter, ever recorded, and 8 day stretch where the temps were in the sixties and seventies). Of course, tomorrow the forecast is a low of 24 degrees. Sure beats feet of snow:D..

Brother Love you've got some great looking cast boolits. I'm totally jealous.

I'm doing my best to cast 9mm with my Lee aluminum mold .356-124-RN 6 cavity. All I seem to get is these frosty looking boolits. I'm using a Mag 25 casting pot at 650% and the lee aluminum mold .356-124-RN at 240%. I think I'm almost there but still getting frosty boolits.

Welcome to the forum William. :D

Without pictures I'll make the guess that the mold is a little too hot, pot temp should be fine depending on the alloy. A fan gently blowing across the mold (NOT the surface of the melt) or just slowing the casting pace a bit could make a big difference. That said frosty isn't necessarily a bad thing, how frosty are we talking?

Did someone say picture...to late no take backs picture attached.

This is what I got after reading for 2 month, how to cast boolits and studying the Lyman handbook 4th addition along with watching more Confu videos or was that another guy anyway the YouTube videos from Fortunecookie45llc and WiederladerTV. Hopefully I got his name right.

Now where was I Oh yes I attached a picture of my cast boolits mess and you should never had mentioned pictures. My wife took more pictures of me casting then I can count. I can't eat dinner before she snaps a photo of my dinner for Facebook. The girls trouble so anyway I put up one picture for you to see.
