I'm no fan of LLA. What lube is in the RCBS?

A properly sized bullet of a proper alloy and leading won't be any major issue. Tons of old wives tales out there about how cast bullet will ruin your barrel and that's all they are, old wives tales spread by people that don't know any better.

According to RCBS's site:

RCBS® Bullet Lubricant fits the Lube-A-Matic® and most other sizers/lubricators that use a hollow stick lubricant. It’s a non-toxic, temperature-resistant blend of Alox and beeswax, developed in cooperation with top-rated competition cast-bullet shooters and formulated to NRA specifications.

Way back before the internet, I used RCBS "pistol lube" exclusively. It worked well for my applications, but rather expensive. Couldn't find it in bulk. Only other complaint is that it's a bit sticky. On the plus side, no heater is required. Approximates NRA 50/50, IIRC.

Currently, running Carnuba Red, with heaters, in my RCBS and Star sizers.

I'm using the RCBS lube for pistols and I've also setup the Lyman heater with it if needed. So far it seems to be going well and I'm about to start reloading them in my Dillon RL1050.

In the past I've had issues reloading cast bullets. The issue was that I didn't check them in my case gage and I went with the information in the Hogdon data application. Now I'm doing the COL using the Lyman Casting 4th addition. It has totally different data for reloading cast boolits and I don't have issues with loading into my pistol since I started using Lyman book. tmp_29459-RCBS Bullet lube_crop_597x597445788152.jpg

I cast the boolits using the Lyman Casting Pot Mag 25 along with the Lee 356-125-2R mold. I sized and lubed them on my RCBS Lube-A-Matic II using my Lyman heater and RCBS pistol lube. The pistol lube worked very well after I heated it up but the soft lube did get all over the bullets and my hands. After lubing the boolits I had to clean their bottoms to get the extra lube off. I found that if I ran them up and down twice in the Lube-A-Matic II it would pull off allot of the extra lube on the bottoms. I also wiped each boolit after they were completed to get any excess lube off before I used them at the range.

I attached a photo of 100 completed boolits along with a picture of how one looks after wiping them clean of lube on the outside of the boolit.

There is great satisfaction in making it with your own two hands and it performed just as you wanted it to. Nice work, now ya gotta go shoot'em up so you can start all over. :D

Since my last update I was concerned that the Lee mold I have is casting .356-125gr-2R with a single lube ring. I used my RCBS Lube A Magic II and my boolits we're great at the range. One concern I had was lead buildup on my SW Shield 9mm but it didn't and after I field stripped my gun for cleaning after the range there was lube inside the 9mm slide.

So now I'm not concerned with these boolits that have a single s single ring.
