Spent the morning checking out my new beaver contract and setting a few traps. Tomorrow will be about 5 miles in the canoe setting up the interior. Didn't see any cars until I got out to the highway(about 4.7 miles in). It's Friday and the tourists are coming for the weekend. Deer flies are about gone but the skeeters are the size of B52's.

Well, we're back. Wife, MiL, and son saw petroglyphs, sandstone cliffs, painted desert, petrified forest, the Grand Canyon and a few other sights. Don't think a day has gone by that Mrs. smokeywolf hasn't said, "can't wait to move". After seeing Arkansas, her patience is wearing thin. Although she did say she wouldn't be in such a hurry if the move was to Kansas or New Mexico. She really liked the Flagstaff, AZ area, but agrees that North-Central Arkansas has more of what we're looking for than anywhere else.
What did I learn? After nearly 5,000 miles, I learned that driving a class C motorhome is like trying to drive a footlocker strapped to a skateboard.

I'm glad you made the trip safely, that's no small achievement. Hopefully you also learned the important lesson that if you ever think you need an RV, do exactly what you did and RENT ONE.

Hey, eastern KS is pretty nice, not much different from where you are looking in Arkansas.

Now, western Kansas, not so much. Not a big fan myself of endless wheat fields.:)

Either way, Free America welcomes the refugees from the Left Coast, as long as they
aren't bringing the Cali infection with them. Clearly, you guys are not.

Glad to hear you all had a good time & made it home safe. 5k is quite an adventure, especially in a "footlocker strapped to a skateboard". I drive a good size box van daily, when you throw in the braking cutteroffers it's a miracle traffic deaths are as low as they are.

I could easily call any of the free states you passed through home, but Cali is a no go for me, even for free I ain't going. Beautiful place there it's just that the pticks would have me dead, in jail, or both in short order.

Hopefully you'll make a great escape.

Ever rent an RV again, it will be a 'super C' or an 'A' and it will be diesel. No torque, no range no fresh, grey or black tank capacity with a gas driven 'C'.

Hmm. Is a clas C a van chassis with cabover house on back? Pretty ignorant about such things. How does a
Super C or Class A differ? My folks had various motor homes, never knew the terms for different kinds.

You got it Bill. In this case a E450, 1-1/4 ton van chassis with a huge fiberglass box bolted to it.
A "super C" is usually a commercial 2-1/2 ton chassis (with cab-over bed) and usually diesel. "Class A" is usually a bus shape (no cab-over) and although sometimes front engine, is more often than not a pusher.

OK, with the Super C, you would get more range, better gas mileage (diesel) and I presume, more tankage from
your comments, but not sure why. I guess it is the much greater gross weight capability and space for tanks. Are the
accommodations larger, too, or just a better chassis for more tankage and probably better
handling?

My father had a really big Winnie, Cummins turbo pusher, Allison 6 speed electrical shifter. That was a nice machine,
although I never drove any of them, just visited them at Oshkosh and Sun'N Fun when parked.

I have wondered about renting an RV. How much does one of these things cost to rent? I have literally no
clue. With that many folks, you were probably looking at least 2, maybe 3 rooms every night, and that could
certainly add up quickly!
Sounds like you hit most of the highlights. I have driven coast to coast many times, and flown light planes several,
too. Great fun to see America that way, so much interesting stuff.

Heavier machine, heavier duty machine, less fighting the road, less fighting the wind. My dad started with a pickup and camper, in the mid '60s a small class "A", in the early '70s a greyhound bus which he spent 9 years converting to a motorhome.
I used to have a fifth wheel trailer and learned of the depreciation and issues with a vehicle with a rubber roof.

Greyhound bus....now THAT would be a heck of an RV, at least potentially. Heck of a conversion
project, and I guess 9 years proves it. Hope he got good use out of it after all that work.
