image.jpg 10 shots at 50 yards from the bench. Accurate 45- 255A lever gun bullet on top of 20 gr of 4227 with Fed 150. Bullets pc'd and sized to .452. I'm pleased!

image.jpg 10 more in the same target. Alloy is 50/50 air cooled. Skinner rear sight factory front sight. This rifle is fun!

Cool! I haven't been working much with mine due to other projects, but what little I have shot it has impressed me. I don't like that huge factory bead in combination with the Skinner, guess I should have listened to others and got a front blade to go with it. My barrel-mounted peep needs a pretty big aperture to make the bead visible, and any side-angle light glare off the bead throws windage off due to optical illusion.

I put a smaller head on my Marlin in 45 Colt. The 24 in barrel helps too.
If there is a finer plinking cartridge in a lever gun I don't know what it is. Bouncing cans at any reasonable range is easy with some practice.

Little late here...but try smoking the front sight...makes all the difference in the world..

Anyone do any more testing with the BB 45 colt?

I see they have an all weather now. That may push me over the edge.

Will the BB feed the 300gr lee bullet?

Mine feeds the Lee 300 like butter if crimped in the top groove. Night before last I cast a pile of MP 45-270 SWC/HP bullets, going to make a couple of dummy rounds and see how those do.

Update. Just checked the MP bullets and they will function just barely. Cases no longer than 1.272" and OAL no longer than 1.629". 1.630" starts to scrape the nose when lifting and at a couple more thousandths won't lift at all. That is loaded so the crimped case mouth is raking hard at the base of the front band during the crimp. To be on the safe side, trimming to the minimum case length would be advisable in my estimation. Aside from the OAL issue, they feed flawlessly as long as the case mouth is crimped sufficiently to leave no exposed sharp edge.

I'm gonna pick up one of the stainless ones just have to decide between 45 colt or 357 mag.

I have lots of brass and molds for 357. I have no dies or brass for 45 colt. And only a noe 255 swc mold. Although I bet my 240gr BD 45 acp mold would be good for a plinking bullet

My buddy has one in Colts you won't be disappointed .
Try to get a set of steel Colts dies the carbide dies over work the brass when you full length size . Neck sizing works well in Colts . My 454424 NOE throws only a 250 gr bullet but so does the Lyman single . The Lee 452-252 SWC looks like it should work well but was uncooperative past 60yd in other Colts chambered carbines . The 452-255 RF is a good one and the 452-200 has been coming around . The 45-200 SWC RCBS sometimes hangs on the case mouth and with the tube magazines you really want a crimp groove anyway .

Might just be my Marlin but the Lee 255rnfp does well at 25-50 yards but gets wonky after that. At 100 I was able to keep them on the berm.....

The Henry BB .45 Colt has a one turn in 16" rate of twist, which is 99% of the reason I chose Henry. It will stabilize anything that will fit. All the other brands have either one in 38" or at best, one in 20" twist.

What is odd is that a 300 gr bullet shoots far better at 100. Might be why I pretty much shoot that bullet exclusively? Those loads are running 1100 fps so not real heavy at all.

The Rossi's are 1-32" . Mine will run a sized down 458-340 at 352 gr . 1200 is reachable . As long as I keep it under 1100 fps MV it's ok . I hate it when you have a load that pops golf balls at 75 yd and misses the berm at 110 yd .
