I got a Super 14 30/30 Contender today!

Been looking for one for a while. It is a Gen 1 and I got it to shoot cast. The previous owner used it for cast too, about 1500 rounds he said, ought to be LN. I get to see it Monday. I will make sure it is still tight.

I will put a scope on it so I need to start shopping for one. I want a good one but I need to stay with middle of the road prices.
Suggestions?

I love my T/C 14", Super 14, 30-30.

This one usually shoots a lot better than I can shoot.

Here it is at 100 yards with it's favorite bullet and load.
( The " low round " is obviously me ! ! )

Thanks Ben, I will give that load a try. The previous gave it a steady diet of cast and he is bringing his load data to me.

Waco, that is the first bullet I'm going to try. So far, it has been accurate in everything I've tried it in, even an old 1964 Marlin with MG rifling.

I really want a Contender. Yet to take a deer with a handgun. Hopefully one day with one of the SAA Clones. But really want a Contender to shoot/hunt with.

I had to have my throat opened up by a custom gunsmith in CO. Basically my barrel had ZERO throat when it left the T/C factory. I couldn't get a single one of my favorite .30 cal cast bullets to chamber without deep seating the bullet, which I hate !

I hope yours is different ? ?
Once I got my barrel throated, it was smooth sailing.

I hope that is not the case but I have a throating reamer. I have used it once. I worked slow and measured often and it worked great.

As soon as the barrel is in your hands, it is very easy to look in the chamber end and see if your barrel is throated properly.

If it is like mine, a nice 1.5 degree throating reamer will take care of your problem.

All this knowledge will have to wait for another opportunity. My trade for the Contender fell through. I will keep looking. Thanks guys.
