I just ordered this one from Tom.
Aluminum , 2 cav. blocks.
.3115 " on the drive bands
.301 " on the nose.
.220 Meplat
Using clip on WW's.

Tom will always " adjust " his own specs on the mould taking my alloy into consideration so that the bullet will drop at my desired dimension. He is a great fellow to work with.

HAMMER ! ! !:):):):)

You got that right Brad !
At about 1,800 fps, I have my doubts that a deer will be stopping this one.
I have been looking at this mould for 6 months.
Today, I decided to do more than just look.

.308?, 30-06? 30-30? All of the above?:D
Did you have a specific firearm in mind?

Primary use to be in my Tikka 30-06 , but my Ruger # 1 in 308 Win. and my 30-30's could eventually see some use with the bullet also.

A little longer taper from bore ride to body would be nice. The top looks like it is made to snug up against the throat.

Should be good if the nose is just right.

I expect it would be good in 308 or 30-06.

Brad,

I thought about the 1st half of the nose at .300 and the last 1/2 before hitting the 1st drive band at .301" ( with a gradual transition in between the two diameters.)

At the last minute , I went for the entire nose at .301"
The rifle shoots the SAECO # 301 ( which also has the nose at a full .301" ) into a nice tight group @ 80 yards.

Here are my bullet " numbers " after being gas checked and passed through a Lee .311 nose 1st sizer :

That is the joy of knowing the rifle and what works well in it. I would be interested in seeing a few recovered bullets from that load. I wonder how far up the nose the rifling engages.

I wonder how far up the nose the rifling engages.

That is a REAL GOOD question that I don't have a good answer for right now.
As soon as I can cast a few and try and chamber some in my many .30 cal. rifles, I'll have more definitive answers.

As long as the nose is, I may have problems chambering in some of my rifles, but I have some with generous throats that should take this bullet without a problem.

I bet the nose will show rifling marks clear up the nose after firing. That nose will bump up a little on ignition, if the alloy is right.

I liked the looks of the Accurate mould. Although not a true clone of my SAECO # 301 , it certainly has some similarities. The larger meplat should deliver the " shock factor " on game animals.

Ben any specific reason for going with the "tumble type" lube grooves in the middle, rather than the typical square lube grooves as used in your SAECO #301?

No reason. Tom's orig. drawing had them, I did not ask him to make a change.
I have several Ranch Dog designs that shoot well with that system ? ? ?

I received an Email from Tom @ Accurate moulds this morning.
He said that I should get my mould in about 2 weeks.
However, he has a tendency to beat his own predictions some time.

It will be interesting to see if the AM 31-210H groups as well as the Saeco #301. I have the latter in both GC and plainbase forms, and wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting.
