I saved a rifle from having to sit on a dark shelf this Christmas…

I’ve been trying to buy a 350 Legend for about six months now. Specifically, I wanted a CVA Cascade but I would have bought a Thompson Center Venture if I found one. There was a Cascade in a Dunhams sports about four months ago but it was overpriced by $100 dollars. A kind of local shop had one but I didn’t have the money with me so I asked them if they would “take if off the shelf” for me and they said they would. When I went to buy it two days later they had sold it.

Local shop has been trying to order me one this entire time but none of his dealers have had one in stock. Probably a bad time with deer season around here and the 350’s have been a hot item for awhile.

So yesterday we were out for our annual Christmas shopping day with the kids and by golly they had a CVA Cascade 350 Legend Camo on the rack looking really lonely at the Sportsman Warehouse. Priced correctly, I asked if I could look at it. After opening and closing the bolt a couple of times, and even looking to make sure it was empty, I shouldered it to check the trigger. Lots of drag, so much that I took it off my shoulder to look it over again. Oh hey, the safety was on… Second time pulling the trigger it broke unbelievably clean and crisp. Wow! Decided then it was going home with me.

We were in New York state and I figured I’d be there awhile because my background checks always take 1.5 hours, always! So, with dinner plans 45 minutes away, I told my wife to go and get a table and then send our son back to pick me up. Sales lady asked for my drivers license and handed me an electronic tablet to fill out the “paperwork”. Took three or four minutes to go through all of that and then correcting one thing and after handing it to her she said, ”You’re done, we just need to get payment”. Excuse me? I’m done? “Yep, you’re good to go”. So, got my credit card out (no cash then either but I wasn’t losing another one) and paid her. I also accepted one of their credit cards which I’ll cancel by the end of the month and saved $50 bucks off the rifle.

So, I made a rifle happy this Christmas by giving it an owner that will take care of it and shoot it like I know it wants to. I hope it likes a steady diet of powder coated lead bullets!

I have new brass already, just waiting on dies. Might prime 100 of them so I’m more ready when I get the dies…

So why did I want a 350 Legend? Not because of the hype and not because I need one. I have lots and lots of 35 caliber bullets and I don’t enjoy shooting pistol as much as I do rifle. I think it’s the only 35 caliber rifle cartridge in a bolt action that uses small primers, (I‘d rather have a bolt gun I have lots of small (pistol) primers and am limited on everything else.)

I'm looking forward to finding a pile of 6.5 CM to make 6.5×52 SR from ;) :) .
It comes in both LRP and SRP as does 6.8 SPC .

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about getting a mold for 6.5 and some small primer brass for my 6.5 creedmoor. Not that I need anymore to play with but…

I'm going to form it to 6.5 Japanese , there's a joke in there somewhere that goes ;
What did the 125 yr old cartridge say to the brand new one that is 150 fps faster ? Nothing , it just recoiled a little and went on its way .
