Ideal 357271 2C information?

I bought 1 from FB pictures .......I should have saved them , but I didn't .
I see where Ben had one a few years ago but the pictures were all gone . It'll be a few days before I get it . It seems like it's a rounded SWC , information says 150gr . I'm thinking it might be a candidate for an adjustment if it's worse than the pictures looked . If it's even worse than that I paid too much for the large handles it's on and I get a set of screws and sprue plate . It has vent lines so it's a late Ideal

Its meat and potatoes is 2.7 grains of Bullseye at the 50 yard line. WC's get really squirrely at 50 yards in the wind, so we would have some of these in the pistol box. Just seat it so the shoulder just goes into the throat.

Talked to the seller again , the mail is taking it's own sweet time .
Anyway it looks pretty rough but I've only got the price of the handles in it so no big deal there . It's hard to get a feel for.how long the nose is , looks like it's short of 1 dia . This may be the 9mm heavy I've been waiting on for 5 yr .

I had a single cav. IDEAL , 271'.
It cast large, as I remember about .361" +.
It shot OK but not spectacular.
Another shooter on the forum ended up wanting it a lot more than I did.

I have a single cavity Ideal '271 that i use for 50 meter chickens, for cowboy silhouette. I use this in front of 8 grains of Red-Dot in a Marlin 336-A chambered for 35 remington. It seems accurate enough for the 50 meter chickens, also might work out to the 100 meter pigs, if one gets a low hit the pig will most probably just stand and not fall (not enough momentum).

Hope springs !

.361 would nice . I have a 38 short that would like that .

I really didn't need another 9/38/357 mould , I have the 358-158 , 358-125 , 358-200 , both Lyman WC 148&161 , 360-228 .......there's another rifle mould but I can't remember what ......maybe the 2 358-200s .......I know , its the 358-90 .

If it's too awful I can lighten it up from the base about 10-15 gr and have a 9mm bullet .

What does it weight cast usually ? WW . Is it actually 150 ?

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I have a. Ideal version, don't remember for certain but it cast rather large. .361 is possible.

I have tha Ideal single cav. mold! Bought it from TXbirdman on the Boolits site years ago, and it does cast at least .360" with WW's + 1% Sn. 2.7gr. B'eye or something similar works well in both my .38Spl. & .357mag., but the Keith SWC's are more accurate out of my guns. Btw, I read (G. Latham?) that particular design was the first SWC, though not via St. Elmer.

for a 9 I would take it down to the bottom lube groove then open the groove to full diameter.
leaving just the upper groove for lube.

I think that mold can be saved with some work.

I'm kind of thinking along those lines . Mostly just to get it down to 130-135 gr but if it happens to cast close to .361 then I'll save it for the H&R 38 short . It should be here by the weekend now (fingers crossed for good packing and no broken handles) .

I would base my decision on the nose diameter.
if it's a bit of a bore rider or less in the 9 it would work great.
if it's too big [shrug] then a 38S&W would be the better case.

I looked through my photos and found these.
Like I said......I no longer have the mould.

Sure enough it was in the mailbox .
I ran some of best rifle alloy in it because that was there and I figure AC is good enough for weights and measures . Totally too hard for where these are heading .
The bad of this is that it's at least as bad as it looked in the pictures . This mould was ridden hard and put up wet . Square grooves and I guess the last guy didn't have any patience .......wholly beat up moulds !
A little stone work here and there and it'll be good enough for the girls I run with .
So the handles are good . :)
The finished product is .365 @ 155-6 gr . Happens I have a 38 short/S&W H&R that I have about 2-1/2 boxes of brass for that will like such a fat 38 bullet . Since it was apparently compatible with the 38/200 Colts NP also I'm thinking about 2-2.5 Unique or maybe 1.5-2 Red Dot .

Filters I can use in the phone are great they let me clear up glare and really make the surface rust "POP" out .

I should probably find someone with a mill and take about .025 off the top to clean up the broken edges . The cavity tops are radiused as well as the top edge of the blocks . On the other hand sized back to .358 it might flatten out the flaired bases .

I would start with the pins and how it closes.
the top definitely needs some help after that.
