IDEAL 358432, 160 gr. W/C

Ct. would be the state abbreviation.

maybe the equal sign was just used as a spacer to fill in from top to bottom to keep everything straight in the hand stamp.
the small t would be a weak spot when whacking it with a hammer and would be prone to chipping, the = would support it top to bottom.

I believe I have seen that used by type setters for abreviating things in old publications..

BTW..Conn. is the old abreviation..CT ..is the new one..

Check "Old State Abreviatons" on line..

Have a 4 cav of the 148 vintage. Weighs about a ton after maybe 20 min
of casting. Don't use it much!

Paul,

At one time I had 6 different Lyman 4 cav. molds.
All have found a different home because of that one factor, weight.
NOE and Accurate alum. moulds will spoil you quickly.

NOE is the closest thing to a custom mould that will ship with 2-3 business days that is out there right now.

The quality control on the dimensions is amazing.

I was very impressed with Mountain Moulds .
At the order the confirmation said 6-8 weeks for delivery .
I made the order on a Saturday night and 9 days later I had a mould that dropped exactly what it was supposed to .
It takes a lot for me be impressed above and beyond .

NOE does put out great products but it sure throws you a curve when you're counting on the plus .001 and or plus 3-7 gr and that mould ships dead nuts ..... It works very well by the way but the plus would have been better ..... One of a kind design though .

I have a 4C LYMAN in a 25 cal I've run it a couple of times it's heavy and the clam shell handles suck, but what do you do when that's THE out of print bullet that you're rifle loves ? I could I suppose try to find a 2 C copy or I could send Sweed some bullets from the 6# Lyman and get it copied in a 5 C . But what if the copy tweek doesn't shoot ?

Now look what you've done ........

More like +.002-3. On the parts you can't size easily. Until you need it and it isn't. Hence the awesome NOE customer service, unlike Lyman that holds you on the phone for three hours and then tells you to pound sand.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Al will always talk with you. He's very good about that. With Lyman, you're on your own. Now that I think I've figured out the casting furnace heating elements, I haven't called them for years. I intend to keep it that way too.

which is a shame.
leader to loser in 10 years.

I think Remington picked up on lymans customer service.
half the time the phone number in the owners manual is disconnected, once you do track down a number your on hold for most of the afternoon, then your transferred until your so mad you don't even make sense to yourself when you do get to talk to someone that might possibly be able to help you.

When a VERY generous gun shop 30+ years ago basically gave me a five g bucket of casting "stuff"......more as a gesture of thanks(spent some real money in there, and was doing some good relation testing for them),than any monies commensurate twds the value....

There was a two cav 358432 Ideal mould in the deal.Maybe have not used it as much as others in that cal but,it IS a solid, easy to use mould.Mainly use it for mid level 357 loads.

Well Ben, I tried your BE load with the 160 WC out of my 94 win,
24" BBl, at 50 yds. They (25 rds) hit point on, but with a little yaw
on the side, so no clean wad cutter hole. Accuracy at best marginal,
maybe 3" at 50 yds.

Now I have to break out the 160 gr single and the 148 double and try them again in the 358 ........

3.0 Unique works in a 9mm with the 148s didn't take any pictures of that investigation beyond the loaded round .

Paul,

I've always found it interesting that some loads that people claim are " SUPER ACCURATE " for them are very poor performers for me.

Example...........30-06 Springfield, 13 grs. of Red Dot with 150 - 180 gr. cast bullet. I've never found that load in any of my 30-06 rifles to be particularly accurate.

That is because it is a 12.5% overload for accuracy. 12 grains is good with a properly sized and seated bullet, but that is a max load for accuracy. Have some of the folk with Quikload calculate pressure with 13.5 grains with 180 grain bullet.

I don't doubt a single word you're saying.
Interesting however to me that hundreds swear by this load.
( Just for the record, I'm not one of them ! )
Generating a lot more pressure than you'd think ! !

Since I know how to spell bullet, there is no climbing onto the bandwagon for me. The 1909 30/06 Guard Load was 8 grains of Bullseye with a 150 grain lead bullet. Pressure is 52,000 CUP. Just because it is quiet doesn't mean things aren't happening inside. Best wishes, Ric
