Ok, first off, 2024 is new but so far has treated me well. I saw a listing on Facebook Marketplace for an RCBS LAM2, clicked on it and found another listing by the same dude for a batch of moulds. After speaking with the gent we agreed on a time to meet.
I picked up a whole slew of goodies, for $200 total. Here's the pile:
I proceeded to look at these moulds better when I got home, and, the RCBS ones look new. So, let me take you down the list. My luck is since I got them cheap, they'll all cast wrong for what I need.
Here's the Lee 45 RB:
Nothing special, but a very serviceable mould for a friend's BP revolver.
Next is a Lee 2 banger 45-230 TL:
Again, nothing special, I don't even have a 45 to shoot it from. They're not worth much though, so I'll hold on to it.
The Lyman 357446 is an interesting piece, lots of tales and intrigue surrounding this style. I'll try it in my T/C Contender 357 Mag:
Now on to the RCBS goodies. I got a set of new handles, well 3 sets as all moulds are accompanied by handles, most look barely used. Just like the moulds.
The RCBS 452-200-SWC is a nice mould, it actually replaces the exact mould I have in my collection that has asmall chip on the blocks. Again, I don't have 45 cal handguns, but, it's here and very serviceable.
The last 3 items are the best for last, the ones I'm very happy to have. The RCBS 30-150-FN:
The *what seems like* brand new RCBS 30-180-SP. I can't wait to try this in a few of my rifles.
And finally, the RCBS LAM2, with top punch and 0.452" sizer die installed. It has a little surface rust, but nothing some 0000 steel wool and 5 min can't fix.
I did explain what these items were worth to the guy and that $200 was basically giving away the moulds for free. He appreciated the honesty but said they were the remaining items from an estate sale he bought and was just wanting to sell them. So, with such a score so early in 2024, I have to ask... What is going to go wrong this year...
