Image Hosting

Just a heads up, in case anyone uses Photobucket....

Apparently they recently changed their policies where free accounts on their site are no longer eligible for third party third-party hosting.

What does this mean? It means that if you upload an image to a free Photobucket account, you cannot then embed that image into another site.

So....don't try to use a free Photobucket account and then embed images here. It won't work.

Found that out a week or so ago, now we have to pay them to link images. I quit using their service a long time ago, the site is so spam-ridden that it wouldn't even function.

Not really that surprising. They want to make money and people using it for free to post photos to forums doesn't make them a penny.

I just upload directly to the forum. Far easier for me.

Photobucket has gone to the dogs.
Sadly, I have a lot of photos there.

No, Ben, they shouldn't be gone, you just can't link them to sites like this one without paying their ransom. I had assumed that they could make ends meet by running two or three sidebar video ads and 3-5 pop-up ads simultaneously, but I guess not.

I deleted everything and returned it to my hard drive. I then closed my account, which takes effect Wednesday. I think my avatar here was loaded directly from my PC. I've had too many problems with PB lately anyway. I'm experimenting with Imagur right now on some sites.

Never used a photo hosting site; never trusted them. Flash drives do the job for me. If a site won't let me upload a photo, it just doesn't get uploaded.

One thing I've settled on with hosts is using my own abbreviations and/or other gibberish to identify pics, or simply not to title the pics at all. This makes it a little less likely for my pics to end up on somebody elses site. It just makes them a little more difficult for others to find them during a web search.

hadn't been on their site in a long time.
Went there to delete my few photos and WOW, so much advertising, the site hardly functions!

Do u have to delete photos one at a time?

I didn't realize they had MOVED them from my phone to the site.

I can't figure out how to move them back to my phone as jpgs, wants to save them as html files.

the thing that got me was the price.
I have seen numbers thrown around in the 400$ a year region to use their space.

If you link to their full page, then they potentially get ad revenue.

The problem is if I just embed an image that's hosted on their server, they never get the opportunity to serve up the ads and thus no revenue from them. That's what people are doing with Amazon, eBay, etc and thus the source of their problems.

Yep! $399/year. They're really targeting the commercial operations and not leaving a viable option for a consumer who only posts and embeds a few images

$399/year? Holy cow, that is asinine.

Good thing it is easy to post direct from your computer here

I couldn't figure out how to do it.

I found the photos on a backup drive, so I just deleted them from the Photo Bucket site.

What phone are you using? It'll be different for Android and iOS.

I'm using an Android, but I find the pictures backed up on a second hard drive and deleted the one from photo buckets web site.
