I'm still EXTREMELY averse to "cloud computing". I keep my stuff under my control, period. I don't want a non-existent connection to keep me from doing what I need to do. My son is a professional programmer and thinks I'm a troglodyte. Good for him, he works at a job with an extremely fast connection. I have distant memories of 300 baud phone modems and more recent memories of the 'net crashing.

Everything has its place. Storing the only copy of images (or other content) that are important to you in anything but a service you pay for is nuts. Not only that, but that service needs to have a documented backup policy - not Bob running a hosting service in his basement.

I'm an IT troll by profession; I'm even working on an effort to move my employer's website entirely to "the cloud". That said, photography is a hobby of mine and I have two copies of every photo on my computer, on separate drives. I also pay for a commercial cloud-based backup service so that if my computer is stolen, my house burns, etc, I still have the files that are important to me.

I won't use Internet-enabled thermostats, garage door openers, security cameras, etc. Why? Because I don't trust the security of the companies that do the hosting of critical services - if their servers get compromised, my home gets compromised. No thanks.

As for cell phones, I have one, I use the heck out of it. My kids all got told, when they got their first cell phone, that I better never receive a text from them in text shorthand garbage. I reminded them that they all know how to spell and how to use proper grammar, and I expected them to do so. I've never had issues with that.
