Just having fun

I've actually never worried or fussed about smokey lube. The range I use now is outdoor. The two police ranges I used to use are both outdoors.

My test for smoke was a stale, humid summer morning at the shooting pits at Texas Tactical during an IDPA match. Most of the stages were set in a series of deep pits were material was extracted for for the ranch roads, and the smoke would just hang there forever. I used a lot of straight liquid Alox for my high-volume .45 shooting, and either Unique or 231, and after three magazines of that the next shooter would usually just sit down and shake his head for a bit because he couldn't see the targets at 15 yards. Also, there was this one lady who was terribly allergic to the stuff and first time she ran a stage after me looked like she'd had a whiff of mustard gas. Next time she was at a match I pulled out my factory ammo. Expensive, but I'm sure she would have done the same for me.

Rick and I had fun at my backyard range, this AM. He brought his Springfield 45 ACP and I was breaking in my new Sig P320 RX Compact. This one has the milled slide with the Sig Romeo 1 mini-reflex. I went through almost 200 rounds of 9mm. Nary a hiccup. Fed everything I threw at it. Started off with 50 rounds of 125 grain FMJ's then some hand loaded Speer 125 JSP's and maximum charges of Bluedot. Cleaned the barrel and then switched over to cast. First up was RCBS 125 RNGC with 5 grains of Unique. Then tried the Lyman 120 TC, a PB, with the same powder charge. Finished up with NOE's 115 RNFP, in HP configuration, in front of the 5 grains of Unique. Not bit of leading. Chewed the center out of the 6 targets, we had hanging. Bad guys, beware.

What do you guys use to catch brass from autoloaders? Put a tarp down? Your range could certainly swallow up some brass otherwise.

John put a tarp down, caught about 99%.

John is correct, had those targets been real bad guys they sure did have a bad morning.

He kinda implied that HE chewed the center out of the targets. He mentioned you were there and brought a 45 but never mentioned you actually firing it!

Does Rick have photos?

Yeah, he's like that. I brought the Springfield Factory Comp & about 400 rounds, shot up 80-100 rounds. The left two targets were mine. I guess John just forgot to mention that.

Was implied. I shot 4 types bullets.....3 cast and some jacketed , Rick two. 4 +2 = 6

Winelover,,, Bud.
remember that time your chain was a little longer after Rick and Brad pulled on it?

that lube smoke wasn't so bad.
homo-lube batch number-1 would lube your pistol, hands, the bench, your glasses, some of the target, and anyone standing within 10' of you.
never-mind the smoke.

Still getting a hint of leading. Made a rod to fit the bore and made an impact slug. The throat Doug cut measures just over .453 so I may try a .453 bullet. My current bullets measure just a hair over .452.
I am sure this is a fit/blow by condition. As the bullet moves forward it is obturating and stopping the leak and therefore the leading. A larger bullet should stop it right off.

Alox definitely smokes...hard lube from commercially cast bullets splatters on the target...

I'm a bit confused..was the fun part refered to in the title... the shooting part or the drilling holes in hat brims part?

Both?
The holes in the hat made the video, and future videos, possible. The shooting was the fun part.
