If I was going to beat somebody with a 1911, I'd want to make it count:

Nice grips on this thread..... well, the metal'ness is too.

I bought a set of those bullseye stocks, the ones with the adj bttm thing, think they're Herret's?That lasted about 2 minutes.Prefer just a hint of thumb rest now.

I have shot the win mag in a pretty good size revolver, I can imagine the hand thump in the pistol.

One of life's great pleasures. This is a 45-270-SAA bullet over 23gr H110. Unfortunately the slide gets into motion before the pressure drops, so I tend to tear extractors.

My FIL had a Grizzly and we shot it some. Like the Desert Eagle and the X-frame S&W, I just never saw the point other than if you need to make the point that yours is bigger, or to show up at a bowling pin match with "enough gun" :D (Sez the guy who built a .458 Socom upper just because he thought it was cool [and we was right]).

MMMMMM! Being a guy that much prefers metal and wood guns, I'm a sucker for pretty wood. Don't see doing better than those grips on the Grizzly.

Welcome pokute. If you're anywhere near Angeles Shooting Range, then we're likely within 80 miles of each other.

Here's a 13 year old shootin' a 100 year old 1911.

Gonna take her a lot longer. Her mind doesn't do 80, it is lucky to roll along at 5 mph

the win mag was the small case for the revolver.
the other options were 45 colt or 450 express.
the 450 is a rimless 454 basically but cut down to about 45 colt length.

I would love to have a 1911. But I can't justify even what the bare bones price is. I have found a company that has had a long history making 1911's that are in my price range. But I wonder about there quality. ATI in the manufacturer.

I picked up an auto ordinance about 10 years back and it was my only 1911 for quite some time. [450$ airc]
then I got a Norinco NIB long after they were stopped from being imported, they were like 279$ when new, probably? double that now.
both of them are still ticking right along, I did break the tack weld on the base plate of the magazine for the auto ord.
an easy fix, but I just replaced it.

Do you have a decent local range? I need someplace to shoot for the next month!

And here's my daughter shooting hers. 17 at the time but only about 75 pounds!

Well, actually, it's extremely accurate with those 285gr lead pills, and knocks down rams at 200m like nothing else! Only problem is, with the checkered grips that I shoot it with, a pair of gloves lasts about 200 rounds! If I could shoot a rifle, I would go for .458 SOCOM in a heartbeat.

Last time I really exercised the Grizzly, it was shooting 4" groups at 50m. Then it suddenly started shooting 4" groups 8 inches left and 8 inches low. Turned out the barrel bushing skirt had given up. I'm wondering if a Briley bushing would last longer.

Here's my other Grizzly, being modeled by a neighbor:

pokute, don't get to the range as often as I'd like (won't go on weekends) but, when I do and can, I go to Piru Rifle & Pistol Range. The place changed hands not so long ago and now instead of $35.00 for my sons and I to use the rifle and pistol ranges, it's $75.00.

That would be the Wes Thompson Range, I haven't heard anything about the fire being in the Piru area. Wes died several years ago but didn't his family keep it? Then there is Rose Valley, the Ojai Valley Gun Club, not sure about the fire up there either but that's getting pretty close to Ventura Which sustained the most damage. With the ASR ranges closed those wanting to shoot are in for a drive for sure.

Thompson family sold out. The Piru range is now called "California Tactical Academy", catchy huh?

Wes died a lot of years ago. Mike, Wes' son was running the range. Thompson family owned most of that little valley where the range was. Wes was motion picture also. Worked in the Universal Studios Machine Shop back in the '60s or '70s I think.

I'm not sure if the fire made it there. Can't find any info, so it may not have burned there.

Been close to 40 years since I prowled around Sespe, Rose Valley and Lion's Campgrounds.
