And I appreciate his help. I don't want to waste his time (or for that matter anyone else's) asking questions I can find my own answers to but sometime there is SO MUCH info that I need help sorting things out. I've set up an intranet web server on a Raspberry Pi for our shop but given some reliability issues with the SD cards on those I'd like to move that to a better platform such as an older full fledged PC running Linux.

Popper, it sounds like he can't getr Linux installed at all, so all that is mute. Windows is blocking him.

Had the same issue with an older laptop. There is a program that won't let any other OS load. My IT guy says it's not at all unusual to see that. It's all magic to me!
