I don't know why I keep looking at these bullets.
maybe it's that smaller 3rd drive band.
maybe it's because it's marked 150 which would indicate to me they come in different weights.
but that larger base band would nix that idea since lyman would generally run the same cherry for different weights but just push it in or out.
maybe it's just the overall design, I like it.

Fiver,

I do not have a photo of the lighter weight version.

it's easy to see the 125 version, just scroll the picture up on the computer until you only have 2 drive bands.
that wouldn't leave much inside the case neck but I could see it in a 300 savage.

I'm glad mine is the heavier version.
Not certain that I'd have been interested in this one if it had been the lighter version.

Dan,

I wish I had $1.00 for every time that I've visited that web site looking at the " old ones."

I have an Ideal 308241 with integral handles, I wonder how old it is. Pretty decent shape, casts a nice bullet.

When the Lyman family bought the remains of the Ideal Tool Company after two bankruptcies, in 1927, the first thing they did was adapt the Modern Bond detachable tool handle design, but simplified. The last solid moulds were made by Marlin/Rockwell in 1914. The guy that bought the remains in 1919 assembled parts and pieces until 1926. HTH, Ric

I will sit there and look at some of those designs and try to figure out what they were meant for.
it would really be cool to have some designer notes or at least a year to go with.

AM 31-190X. The XCB was originally conceived for 180-200 grain bullets @2400 fps, hence the design. Later, other people tried other things....it was, after all, a grand experiment.

I have a mould for that one! Probably one of two ever made.

I also have the 31-180Q (which was my design), which is a bore riding design, and the 31-180V which has a tapered nose. The former is excellent in my .30-30 Rem 788 over 28.0 grs of H4895 at 2050 fps, and the latter does well in the .308 Win over 31.4 grs of RL10X at 2200 fps. Or, 41.0 grs RL17 in the .30-06.
