Ordnance gelatin does not translate well into the real world, unless you are shooting naked people or thin skinned animals. IMHO

. Agreed.

But its remains a constant Many can use and an is accepted way to compare.

Real world results are quite different. The idea is to see what might not penetrate a human chest...

Right off the bat 18" is a mighty thick chest front to back and surely no where near an average.. ;)

Internal ballistics? Hard science, and well-understood.

External ballistics? Hard science, well-understood, and if you account for variables its predictions are valid.

Terminal ballistics? AT BEST--a poorly-understood art form with occasional and scattered scientific overtones. No gunshot wound ever did its recipient any good at all. A 32 ACP JHP might expand, but a 45 ACP JHP darn sure won't SHRINK. Yes, I am deeply biased--but penetration is critical for stopping potential. Anyone/anything worth shooting is worth shooting until it stops doing what it was that prompted the hostilities initially.

Aren’t naked people usually thin skinned as well? Seem to be hippies for all I can tell.

In Yakima in the winter, there are no thin skinned people. Or they are dead of hypothermia.

I read somewhere (source not recalled) that the Russians went to the 5.45 x 18 caliber in their service arms because the earlier 9 x 18 Makarov blunt RN FMJ bullet frequently got stopped by the layered clothing worn by Russians during colder times of year. The spitzer-form 5.45mm bullet was believed to penetrate clothing layers more readily. That might apply to the FN 5.7 x 28 pistol and carbine as well.

That's conceivable, parts of Russia have two seasons--Winter, and August.
