Made me about 700 + .011" alum. , .22 cal. gas checks this morning.

I'm in pretty good shape right now on FC III gas check makers.

The .011 " alum .22 cal. checks fit tight on my different .22 cal. cast bullet designs.

I need to get a good look at one of those some day. I want to see how he worked them out. Since they are no longer being made I might just see what I can do for my own purposes and education.

Are you using .011 metal for your .30 cal also Ben? I couldn't get them to work with anything smaller than .012 copper or .014 aluminum. I might have to go back and try some lighter metals now that I have one of Brad's check tools.

Ben,
I have a Freechex III in .30 and love it. I have been wondering about making .22 checks for my Hornet and after seeing yours I think I might have to go ahead and do it.

Is that aluminum stock metal?

I make checks for plain base handgun bullets and have used aluminum soda and beer can with good success.

I drink Scotch, but have buddies that are more than happy to make the sacrifice to keep me supplied with beer cans!

The screw on lid cans seem to be thicker that the soda and beer tab cans. Miller screw on lid cans seem to average about 0.0055" thick.

This is the set up I use when making .30 cal. gas checks. The coil aluminum is from "Yonky" at Coil and Foil http://www.coilandfoil.com/ and is .0145" and seems to be more malleable than the aluminum roof flashing I had been using. I would highly recommend them.100_0188.JPG 100_0192.JPG 100_0190.JPG 100_0196.JPG

Mr. Dahl how does the aluminum tape from Yonky compare to Amerimax in price? I have heard of Yonky but never priced them for compairison.

The current price for a 50' coil of 1/2" X .145" is $7.50 and shipping is $8.00 in a flat rate package. You can get two in the package for the same shipping. As for comparing the price I think that the ease of use are worth any added expense if any. 50' makes a lot of gas checks with very little waste.

Kevin Stenberg,
I'm not sure what it is that you are looking at but the answer is no rope attached to handle. My little drill press is very adequate as is to make gas checks by using my hand. I know that most people use an arbor press but I don't own one and my drill press works well.
