Yes, the 182 gr. plain base is a real shooter out of my many .30 cal. rifles.
Here is a nice group I fired below :

The load was 8.5 grs. of Herco and the Accurate 182 gr. plain base, bullets were sized .311" . The rifle was a Springfield, 2 groove, with Optics.

I fired this 5 shot group at 50 yards. ( That aiming square is 1.25 inches X 1.25 inches for size comparison )

JWFilips, You wrote---->

Let's us know what your selling!

I have 3 molds that I'm considering to sell. They all are in very good condition. I have cast with each of them once and put them away cleaned and oiled. I'm not a great salesman and don't know what to ask for them. They are Lyman 311467 GC, Lyman 311403 PB, OHAUS 30-150-s (like the Lyman 311466 GC). All three are near new old stock. Any suggestions?

Sendaro, I would be interested in that Lyman 311403 PB, depending on price. However Im no expert on prices. Let me know what you decide.

1989toddm, I'm waiting to hear some in put on what I should ask before posting the molds in the sell & trade part of this forum. I don't want to post a price that is not fair nor do I want to give the molds away.

Pertinent info would include # of cavities.

A strange coincidence to say the least has just happened. A few days back I start this thread about Mold History. I state in this thread that I'd like to know more about it and was informed to check in the Lyman hand book #46. I read it with interest and enjoyed it. Then I post in the thread that I'm thinking about selling 3 molds that I acquired from the estate of a good friend that passed away recently (Richard). They are Lyman 311467 GC, Lyman 311403 PB, OHAUS 30-150-s (like the Lyman 311466 GC). Here is the spooky part! Last evening I attended a club meeting and a mutual friend of my deceased friend Richard brought me a gift from Richard's estate. There were three books, and one of them is the Lyman #42 reloading manual that is loaded with information about cast bullets and loads. There is even a brief history on some of the bullets. The information I found in this book lead me to the decision not to sell the molds. As a matter of fact it has sparked my interest in the Loverin bullets they cast and the 311403 Pope designed bullet. That Pope 311403 bullet and the information I found on it is very interesting. I'm going to give it another go. However this time the way it was meant to loaded by Pope.

Could it be that Richard had unfinished business? A little spooky isn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sendaro,
That Lyman 311467 is a super shooter in my 30-30 Marlin 336 Loaded single shot as well as my Savage 340 30-30; whereas neither will shoot the Lyman 311466!
I find that strange but you never know! Sometimes things happen for a reason You should keep those moulds!

Jim, I have to say that you have given good advice. I'm keeping the molds and giving them another try.

If you do decide to part ways with them, I'd still like dibs on the 403. In the meantime, good luck! :)

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
There was a guy some years back, 12-15 years, that was going to produce some sort of encyclopedia of moulds. I forget his name, but he was out west and had an online presence. At one time IIRC he had listings for all the major players. I think his nick name was "The god of moulds" or something like that. I lost his web addy (does anyone else still use that term?) in a crash 3 or 4 computers back. Does that ring a bell for anyone?

I don't know if Jon is associated with the current Western Bullet Company or not. I dealt with him 15+ years ago.

Was that Jon at Western Bullet?

It might very well been, it sounds right but my "rememberer" doesn't work for squat these days so it could have been Zeno L. Aardvark and it would all be the same to me!

I have both and intend to give it a go with my "there were never any of those made" 9 twist Savage 06' .
I want to patch it up for an SKS as well .
