This was posted on another thread. My question is who also owns one and what is the best alloy you use for your load so it expands well? 16:1? 20:1?

16:1 is far too hard to expect expansion @ the 800 fps range of the 45 acp.

As mentioned in my post, my NOE mold with a large gaping hp I needed 30:1 alloy to see consistent almost to bottom of HP expansion.
Faster ya push it easier it becomes. If ya can get into the 900's ya start to see larger what Id call full expansion.

I used a baffled water box. Sand & wet paper is harsher on bullets and they expand easier but isnt realistic.

I do have this mould(4 cav) . We shoot it a lot in a ruger blackhawk convertible and several autos. As cw stated there is sorta wide variance at different velocities. At 800 or in the low 8s we use30:1. In the high 8s and into the 900fps range we use25:1.Wehave never been satisfied with anything softer. Oh 5 and 5 1/2 inch barrels. My grandson also deer hunts with an old rossi 92 in 45 colt. 20:1works for him . Hope this helps

I have this in a 4 cavity and I use the round pin with 22 range lead and about 2% tin.
They cast amazing and it is a super malleable alloy that gives great slug up in the bore and expansion is fantastic. It folds large vermin up with authority.
My go to bullet for sure in the acp.
Hoping to work up some 45 colt loads this winter!

Have you had to adjust your alloy just like changing your charge weight to optimize performance or is this an almost universal load like 2.8gr BE for .38 spc wadcutters?
