Need help with an alloy!

I have a friend who wants me to make him some bullets of Linotype and COWW. These will be for a .300 Blackout, subsonic loads. Mould is the NOE 311-247FN. Suggestions and comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Harles

Were it me I would save the lino for when it's needed. The CWW would handle the sub sonic load well and wouldn't even need heat treating.

I would even cut the COWW 50/50 with pure and water drop. Save the good stuff for when it is required.
I cast mine from range scrap and water drop them. That alloy is about 1.75% Sb and less than .5% Sn. Heat treats easily to 18-20 BHn.

Cutting the WW would be fine but water drop for 18-20 BHN? For sub sonic? The WW with a bit of tin is 12 BHN and for sub sonic if anything is over kill.

They are subsonic but the pressure is still reasonably high. I would expect pressure in the 35-40 KPSI range.
My rifle will shoot fine with the lower BHn but I find it does a little better with the harder bullet. If nothing else it get deformed less on feeding.

Cut and quench .

Cut will keep them from breaking up but that long nose needs the rigid hardening to clear the muzzle .
I've done a little work along those lines .........

That bullet is kinda fun to find in the berm. They often get bent into C shapes.

I quench the LEE version I have for sub sonic work too.
they clink and clank like a bag of quarters.

About what I thought, these answers I mean, but I thought I'd ask more experienced casters. Just in case. May just try samples of your replies, for the experience of it. Thanks to all of you. Harles

if he really needs to use both then a 3 to 1 mix ww/lino would do the job if you throw more tin in there you'll be close to a lyman #2 mix.
I wouldn't get too lino crazy though the noe mold most likely pours big to begin with.
