I just purchased , from S Mac , a nice NEI , .30 cal double cav. mould.
It is a bit unusual in that there are two different weights cut in the same mould block.

Many of my .30 cal. moulds cast a nose that is far too large for my many 30-30 rifles that have basically zero throat. The bullets from this mould should chamber fine in my rifles.

The first few I cast measured .3095 X .3105 " with my range scrap alloy.
I decided to lap both cavities ( slowly with several measurements to insure that I didn't enlarge the mould too much ) . The lapping was a great success. Now both bullet weights size to a nice round .311".

Trevor will play the role of " Quality Control Expert " on these at our next trip to the range.

Ben,
That is a pretty unique mould!. Interested in seeing how it shoots both bullets!
And yes; that file trick of yours has helped a number of poor base fill out moulds I had.

I’ve also done the file trick, after I leared it from you, Ben. Very neat!
I suspect those bullets will make very nice groups for you, Trevor and Ben. Best of luck to both of you!

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Nice mould Ben. I used to be able to remember the differences between a Walt Melander cut NEI and the later ones. Can't remember any more, but the under sized nose makes me think that is from after Walt died.
