NOE Heavy Weight 38/357

I have a 2 cav. , 38/ 357 aluminum NOE mould that cast a nice, plain base,
bullet that weighs 185 grs. ( + or - ), I took one cavity and plain based it.
The remaining cavity continues to be a g/c. It is a very versatile mould , it shoots
real well in my Ruger # 1, 358 Win. and my Ruger #1 , 35 Whelen rifles.

This should be a hard hitter out of my T/C Contender 10" , 357 Mag.

It should also shoot well out of my Smith Model 686, 6 ".
These you see below are sized .357". They are tight in the
cylinder throats of my Smith , Model 686.

I also plan to experiment some with this bullet in 38 Spec. cases.
I know before you say it., Be real careful as pressures will spike quickly.
You're RIGHT ! !

For all of you that like the 358429, this one has a larger meplat and is heavier.
If you can get some horsepower behind this one, it will be a killer.

These should keep me busy at the range for some time to come .

Ben,
Hi there I live in South Africa and joined this forum a month or two ago at the suggestion of Cbrick (I think) from the CastBoolits Forum. I have to say, I have learnt a stack of thing from you guys!

Anyway, to the point. That looks like a very useful boolit! I have a Lyman 358429 mold and am waiting for a mold that Tom at Accurate Molds was kind enough to make for me. I will be using them in my Ruger BH .357 Mag/9mm Convertible. The 358429 boolit is awesome! Very accurate and I intend to hunt with it in about a months time. My first handgun hunt.

Thanks!

some oomph behind them you say?
I would bet that the 357 maximum would oomph them right through a buffalo.
now I gotta go look at the noe site.
I have been using a 180gr truncated cone silhouette boolit but this one with the gas check looks like a great hunting boolit.

Fiver, I am not so sure about taking on buffalo with the ..357 Magnum!! It is however quite an underrated hunting cartridge here in SA! The reason I say this is I have a friend who has taken 19 species of game, cleanly with his Taurus .357 Magnum. He uses a 180 grain bullet. I manage to get 1325fps from my RBH with its 6.5" barrel. Great groups at 25 meters if I do my part!! Now I am practicing from field positions out to 50 meters...(It seems to me that a bench with sandbags is never present here when I go hunting...):D

Is that 180gr truncated cone from an RCBS mold?

it's from magma engineering and is a plain base.
I am wanting a gas checked design for my 357 maximum revolver and something in the 180gr range allows me to gain a whole bunch of flatness out to 200 yds or so.

Consider NOEs 360180, which is a 180 gr RFN with double crimping grooves, and is available as a hollowpoint or solid, and in plainbase or gas check. It's a BRP design, and is essentially a modified, scaled down 429640 Lyman design. The hollowpoint version comes with three sets of pins, std hollowpoint, cup point, and solid nose.
