NOE service?

I've bought 30 or more of his molds and other items for quite a few years.recently(10-29) I ordered a mold that showed in stock.two days later I ordered another.the later mold arrived and the other still showed "in shipping " Two emails to Al got no response. So I called and he said they were just assembling them. A week later nothing. So I emailed again saying "I see the 4 cavity I orderd is still out of stock but the 2 cavity is...you can just ship the 2 cavity and I'm not concerned about the price difference" no response.then a few days later another email asking about the order.no response.

He did this to a friend a couple months back and I didn't believe it but now its happening to me.

His service is so fantastic this is really strange.
A couple month a ago I emailed about a mold issue and he called me on the phone within 10 minutes!

I’ve had hit or miss with the email as well, but, more luck with the phone and Al has not hesitated to take care of my requests. As all these out fits are stressed right now, be tolerant as you obviously have been.

The manufacturing facility I'm working at we are struggling with similar stuff so I'm very patient . It's just odd because hes usually so good with communication. Wondering if there's a possibility he was stepping down and somebody else was running it.

I don't know specifics about Al or NOE, but I gotta think supply chain issues are affecting his work like it is that of so many others. Add on the surge in handloading and bullet casting since the primer & ammo shortages onset yet again, folks like Al at NOE and Tom at Accurate are probably working like a one-eyed cat watching four rat holes.

Concerning bore riding designs from NOE. It’s been my finding that every mold I have ever bought the nose diameter has been way oversized. Am I the only one? On .30 cal molds .302”-.303” seems to be the norm.

I know for sure Al is busy, that's a given.
now to add my speculation...
I can imagine Al gets more emails than he can read. If he see's an important email (I bet there are important emails he never sees), he will likely call the person to handle the issue. I've given others (at the other forum) this advice, if you need to contact Al, call him...I would not send an email, because I just don't believe he is able to see all the emails he gets. If he doesn't answer the phone, try calling another time....keep trying til you get through. The last 18 months have been a busy crazy time for every company in the firearm's industry...Al will make it right, if get him on the phone.

I've owned more than a dozen NOE molds, they are almost always oversized by .001 (on rare occasion .002)..that's for all "diameter" dimensions. It's consistent enough that I count on them to be .001 over when I order them..

As to Bore riders, my smaller than 30 caliber NOE molds have been correct nose size (according to my Gun).
I've bought two different 30 cal bore riders from NOE, both way oversized (long stories) and I sold them after they sat on my shelf a few years.
Oh, there was one exception, a mold for 6.5 Kurtz (134gr) multi-groove like a loverin, but it wasn't tapered...and way oversized.

Nope, not the only one. Oversized noses is one of the reasons I quit buying moulds from NOE. Oversized and tapered gas check shanks is another one. Conveniently, some Rube Goldberg nose-bending (AHEM!) I mean "nose sizing" bushing contraptions, together with gas check expanders and gas check seaters, are available from the same company to address these chronic problems, but I choose to buy from Accurate instead because I can be assured of having neither issue.

Based on my experience with NOE including an order I made last month or the month before I would say the situation is unusual. Sounds like your experience makes it very unusual too. NOE recently emailed me (and I assume other recent customers) about their price increase. I’m assuming they are dealing with material and labor issues like everyone else. In every human endeavor there are mistakes. I’m not clear on what he did to your friend. Was a mold never delivered? Money kept? Or slow delivery? My dealings with this company have always been exceptional.

As far as dimensions of bullets dropped from NOE molds they have always been very close if not spot on to the drawings on the website of the mold when cast from the specified alloy; usually wheel weight. The consistency of bullets from each cavity have been amazing, so good I don’t sort them. I can’t say that about that about all the other mold brands. But if a mold is out of spec. the company will make it right. I think I’ve only purchased 6-7 molds from NOE, plus top punches, and a tool to make gas hornady gas checks seat better on a couple of Lyman/Ideal molds and a Saeco mold. Communication and service have been outstanding.

I hope another phone call or email gets this sorted out. I’d not hesitate to order a mold this instant if the 6.5mm mold I want was in stock.

To my knowledge NOE is still only a 3 man , 6 day , 5 CNC machine shop , where the wives throw in on Saturdays to pick up the packaging slack . It's just Al Nelson and his 2 sons during the week . Although that outline is 5 yr old .

One of the bugs they face is inventory taxes based on a twice a year inventory of goods , both raw materials and finished so the whole state does an ebb and surge in like March and September with big sales in February and August . Also the state is basically closed for a week in October for the opening week of hunting season .

I'm sure with the expansion of tools and parts offered that they have hired a couple of more hands , you'd have too just to keep up with that inventory expansion . It's still not a big operation even if there's 10-12 working in 5,000 sqft of office , machine shop , and warehouse . I think it's more like 2500 sqft .

As to quality of tools I have 10 or 11 of theirs in 2,3,4,5 cav moulds from a 225-62@5 to a 460-543@3 with stops at 25,26,28 , 30 and 35 cal . I have weighed bullets on a number of occasions . What I found was a consistency around 1% in every mould but one . The 287-150 and I just don't connect and it's my fault . It's a 5 cavity , I've cast probably 8-900 keepers in several alloys and I don't believe I've ever dropped 5 good bullets from a single pour it's always 3-4 and it's me .......I don't know why I've kept I don't have a chamber it will fit anymore and the likelihood of me wearing any of those available to me now that large is unlikely . The 460-543 is their version of the 458132 535 gr Postell RN , my 3 cav casts from full to empty pot , about 15# which goes pretty fast , within 3 gr without showing a cavity connection pattern but more a pot level blending swell . Dia are so close I don't bother unless I got a spot on a mould face .

I guess I've bought 9 or 10 from them directly most were 2-5 days from "click to complete" to door step , one took 19 days and I really believe that it was packed , dropped under a table , placed in mailing , missed in several pick ups , misrouted (based on tracking it stopped in every SLC metro PO) , and weather delayed at least once . It was 3 days between pack and ship notices , over a weekend , and 3 more before tracking showed it in Ogden , Provo , Morgan , then SLC ........ Reno via Phoenix ....... It was almost like I wasn't supposed to have that one .

they don't do that anymore.
too many people now, and everything is a draw.

that was one of the main reasons i left.

Morgan??? LOL
they barely have a branch post office there, you can see it from the freeway on the one sided main street.
