Got a beautiful mould this morning and I have a problem. The mould won't close properly when I mount it on my Lyman Handles. I assumed Lyman Handles were a go for a Ohas mould, am I wrong? I'm including some pics to show what I mean concerning the mould not closing properly, as well as a pic of the mould blocks without the Lyman Handles. Would enlarging the holes in the handles solve my problem or would that be the ruination of a good set of handles?

Since Ohaus' mould business was sold to RCBS, I'd try RCBS handles on them. LEE would probably work as well.

I think the distance from the inside edge of handles to the edge of the hole is large enough to prevent the handles from letting the mold halves pivot enough to mate flat. Rather than enlarge the hole I might consider filing/grinding a little material off where marked.

Keiths right. Since your Lyman handles fit the block grooves, RCBS handles won't help. You are probably using 2 cavity handles on a single cavity mould. That's why they won't close correctly. I wasn't observant enough. I have heard of people modifying the handles before, but since I have about a half-dozen or so of each style handle, I never paid much attention to it before.

I have had to file thin the blades on the Lee handles to fit others. Pain, but once thinned works great. Next time I am going to use the belt sander.

You're right Keith, but before modifying the Lyman handles, I tried the Lee and they worked great. Cast some quickly (didn't warm the mold) and it cast great from the very first drop. Here's some pics of the ones I just cast. Weight ~430gr (going to cast some with Lyman #2 later today) and dropped @ .4575 which will work great in a 458 Socom AFTER a light coat of Powdercoat.

Great! Always nicer NOT to have to modify things just to get something to work right. Lee handles (once modded to keep the wood from falling off) are IMHO a great bargain, always handy to have some around.
